Mrs M: I had a 12 ft concrete stock tank that was spring fed it had been in 40 years when I got the place. The bottom had about six inches of silt. The sides were covered with moss and lichen - On the bottom I had a 15 inch stand of wild water cress. year round. In winter I covered it with 8mil clear greenhouse glaze. Though in winter seldom picked it except for Christmas. During summer I picked it all the time - and ate a sprig everytime I
took a cup of cold water to drink. People used to drive in on Sunday and ask if they could drink and have a gal of water
They had been coming for years. One day
I saw a woman pulling out all the cress and I came running Stop what are you doing- I /m pulling these disgusting weeds.
After that I had to block the driveway when I left with two saw horses.
The worst is when they cut the little fir treas I have planted and use them as Christmas Trees. Last year my neighbor had Blankets made for his cows with a sign on them I am a Cow. Do not shoot me - I am not a deer. Turkey season
has started so bullets are flying everywhere for the rest of May. You don't dare let kids go in the woods anymore. People shoot at anything that moves. Road signs , barn windows - mail boxes are prime if they don;t kill somethi8ng else.
Me either Jake! When I was little, on the farm we had white ducks. I just loved to toss corn into the creek and watch them dive for it. We laughted at their tails in the air wagging as they ate under water. They were so soft and fluffy. That is on my "wish" list for the perfect home.....someday. A pond or creek with white ducks.
We had bunnies too, but I could never eat them. I was traumatized I think! Actually I don't like to eat meat much. It kinda grosses me out. Pretty much stick to chicken , pork and beef if I eat it at all, as long as I don't think about it too much!

Jake do you have the ty duck named Jake?

Asparagas...wild?? I love it wild!!!

Oops .....I just yanked some out of my flower beds! The birds around here seem to be experts at pooping seeds from all over the county into my flower beds! And I have mulch on most of them so it sprouts very well.
One thing they brought me that is just beautiful is a red poppy. It's a strange one, it's leaves look like lettce, pale smooth green instead of fuzzy like a thistle, and it grows up a tall stem. The flower head is bright red and as full as a carnation! Just wonderful. I hope they bring me more surprises like that.
Sorry Mrs.M, I shoulda sent it to you! I think asparagus is gross! I guess I'm the opposite of Mory. He has such a wide variety of menus, and I pretty much stick to a few of the basics!
We got six ducks 2 yesrs sgo - tiny little yellow fluff balls but they outgrew our little pond and went native. They have lasted two winters and number about 16. I think they have cross bred with the wild ducks as now have some grey feathers.
Some fly and others are two heavy to fly. The same happened with some turkeys
but think most of them have been taken by bow hunters. Several were left to rot and now the entire community is shutting out the bow hunters as well.
It's my contention that if you can see
houses in all four directions you shouldn't be hunting anything. Because anything there is domestic.
I am Going on a short trip, the first of several but will keep checking in - if I can get the laptop to work... Hope so.. Jake: the last Duck with the innertube is a hoot. Thanks
They aren't ducks, but we have the big geese that fly over our house on the way to the golf course lake. A couple of years ago a pair stopped when they saw our pool. I saw them circle back and swoop in to land on the yard just below the pool. It's an above ground pool and they landed on the lower side. Had they landed on the opposite side they would have been at water level. Anyway....they wondered around looking for how to get up into the water. They walked back and forth, and across the street and back, and out into the cornfield and back and stood and looked at it. This went on for about 3 hours! Finally they settled in the cornfield. They were gone the next morning. Guess I was glad they didn't get in the pool, but felt sorry for them. They looked beautiful among my flowers.
My van is loaded, I had hoped to be able to take a nap in the back but have so much stuff I'll have to nap in the drivers seat. After my first stop I won't have so much stuff. Going to watch a friend dip and carve candles. and help what little I can. He is carving 310 white candles for a wedding reception. At $40 ea. Plus 10 more as samples for the florist that gets him
the work. This is a rush job they wanted more but he had already taken an order for 300 candle Lighthouses for a gift shop on the Jersey Shore. Then he has to start carving Red & Green ones for Christmas again.
He carved 10 years at the NY State Fair but last year they upped the booth rent from 4M to 10M (for Security they said) so now he does as well in a big Mall. The company owns 33 Malls but will just work the 12 in the East and Florida. Isn't it interesting all the ways you can make a living.
Sniper Success Story: I sniped a $600 HP Printer, Scanner, Copier Fax for less than two ink cartridges. It came today & I plugged it in and instantly made copies. It even takes Media cards in the side and prints color proof sheets. I bought two new cartridges but to my disbelief it came with two installed. It also enlarges and reduces. The new model has a 3inch lcd screen you can preview the print on. Mine just makes a proof set, you can mark the ones you want and it will then print them . Or select them by number. Thanks Auction Sniper.
Jake: It's a PSC 950 and the best of all the HP except the new one with the the color screen on top. MY old HP flipped out so I mailed it back and they sent me a new one free then I cam upon the auction of this AV co. and sniped the psc950. HP has been very good.
Now for my Lemon Purchase of Spring 2004 -bought a Black & Decker Leaf Blower and Mulcher - the Blower is OK but the Mulcher attachment to vacume and bag leaves is a dud. Great Idea but to make it safe the mulcher is just a paddle that beats on the leaves to break them up. Capacity is very limited l leaf at a time and the leaf must be small and very dry. You can pick them up faster manually. The blower head is better than my Toro as the air discharge comes out a smaller port. Jake, the Ducks following the dog is priceless.

I don't know how you find all those bargins Mory. Although I have gotten a couple for my new cell phone. Stupid me, I didn't think about combining shipping so had to pay $4.00 more.

Waiting for a friend to pick me up. We are going to San Francisco (yeah I know I said I wouldn't go back) to see the Lion King and mess around for a few days.

Home again after a long drive..Got caught in a lightning storm for the first
time on the road. Pulled over then golf ball hale - everytime I think I have seen it all I get another dose of heaven & Hell. Paid $1.96 for gas. I sure picked a lousy time to start driving around. I have a big medical bill arbitration meeting Monday so had to come home to fight that then off to travel a bit more. All my Lilac's are in bloom so I sat on the porch and just smelled spring for a while tonight.
Am waiting for the Stuffed Pork Chops & Sweet potatoes to finish baking. Having strawberry rhubarb pie I bought at church
this morning at the bake sale for summer camp. It won't be long & I can make my own.
They are about 15 ft high as never pruned them so have to pull over the giant branches to pick them. But each Lilac is about 10 inches long. the White ones are smaller about six inches.
Around the bottom I have Bleeding Hearts and they both bloom at the same time. I potted 9 Hanging baskets today and have 7 more to do next week. Also got all my spices and onion sets planted.
Bleached the marble bird baths and hung new Humingbird feeders. Two Robins have nests in the Lilac's. I'm pooped.
I have a nice miniature lilac ... already bloomed! The neighbors on each side however have the normal variety that I can snag a bouquet from Smile Noticed yesterday too that my roses are blooming! And I have a 20 foot hedge of honeysuckle and potato vine in the front ... the honeysuckle should start going soon, but I need to put my 'magic growing stuff' (cow manure!) on it to give it a little jolt ... it's been a little weak the past couple of years. There's nothing like the smell of honeysuckle wafting into the house Wink

And Mory ... please send me some of your gas ... it's $2.39 for the cheap stuff here!
Got back fron San Francisco in jig time today. Only took 1hr & 20 min. A few weeks ago it took 4hrs. The Play exceeded my expectations. I left my new phone at the hotel. Gas was $2.50. It's $2.19 where I live but expected to hit $3.00. How much is gas in Aussieland, Lex? I was gonna take my bikes to the dump but now I think I will fix the flats. Did the hail do much damage to your vehicle Mory? You sure do get a lot accomplished. When you go to Australlia if you need to break up your trip and rest a few days, stop by. I will take you out to eat and give you first crack at the TV dinner selection. But, if you feel the need to cook (hint, hint) it's ok by me.
Jeepers Lexis, I thought I was going to have a stroke, $4.67 per gallon. Holy cow, I guess I do not have any reason to gripe. Fuel prices are out of control. Supply & demand I guess.
When I was in the city, they had the annual Bay to Breakers race. There were approx 75,000 participants. We stayed a block from the route so I went & took a few pictures.. I saw four naked guys walk by but just my luck no naked gals, although there were some in the race. I am always at the wrong place at the wrong time. It was a remarkable sight.
