Your item will sell to the highest bidder at the moment the auction closes, whether that be straight bid, proxy or a snipe.

Controversial Question.
Does sniping mean that seller gets less money? Often yes as there is no potential for a bidding war driving prices up as emotions run high.
That said, AS makes me want to bid whereas I might not have bothered so I reckon it's six of one and half-a-dozen of the other!

That's a fair point.
The knowledge that my chances of winning are greater with AS makes me go for things I might otherwise pass up as being too much trouble.

In theory, it should not make it sell for more, however if everyone used AS, it would drop temporarily., But then in the future, it would become a sealed bid kind of atmosphere. I am split on this, I use AS, however, I place a bid for the max I would pay, should it go up higher, then congrats to the other person, should another AS get in higher, good for them, cause I would not have raised my bid to beat them. That said, since so few of the people use it, I do think it upsets bidders in the eBay commmunity, and although AS would not appreciate knowing this, I am not ashamed to say that I often close my auctions 2-3 minutes early to avoid those little snipers that take something away from someone that has been bidding for days on my product. If I see someone continually bidding, I will help them get the item and not let it be taken away by someone being cheap and using an autobid program. But until a majority are using the program and it becomes more of a sealed bid process, I will continue to do this in my auctions.
As a seller, I personally like snipers! If there were a majority of bidders sniping, it might weigh a little different, but as I see it now, by the time the one or two snipers place their bids,if the bid is high enough to place, everyone else is done. It just pushes the winning bid up. When I put something up for auction I want to get the most from it. It is not the sniper that wins, but the highest bid, no matter!

There will always be hard feelings as long as people refuse to follow eBay advice and not enter the max they are willing to pay. Most bidders enter what they HOPE to pay instead of what they are WILLING to pay. In my eyes, THAT'S being cheap.

I am not really understanding the logic behind this. I mean I understand (kinda) that you are looking after the bidders that plodded along upping your selling price for days....but what about the poor bugger that only jumps on ebay once a week and happens to notice your item that he really wants in the last 2 minutes of your auction. Are you being fair to him by ending your auction early??
Anyways - I would never end an auction early to get LESS for my item, thats against everything that sellers want (in my opinion).
The end result is, if your proxy bidders enter the MAX they are willing to pay for your item, they shouldnt be disappointed at all that a sniper came along and beat them. They should be laughing that the sniper paid too much for their win.
Also, if you listen to Sara, AS has thousands of members, so there are alot more snipers out there than you think

Even people with too much money wouldn't do that! 
I take offence to being called cheap because of using sniper...I refuse to get into a bidding war with bidders who don't know how to bid and constantly up the price of an item to where it is unaffordable anymore. And I agree with the statement of how is it being cheap if you pay the highest amount? I am a seller as well and have no problem with people using sniper services. And I never put in the max I will bid for an item until the end anyway....As a buyer I want the best deal and as a seller I want my customers to get fair deals and honest prices....

If I'm going to bid...I'll put on a bid, but I won't max it until the end as when someone bids then ebay automatically puts my bid higher...then if the other person does the same, I get into a bidding war whether I like it or not...and all it's done is raise the price...If I waited till the end (as it would by using auction sniper) it doesn't keep going up ...if it's only the two of us bidding, it maes a big difference...then when I do go to put the bid in, they don't have time to start bid war...same as by using sniper...sort of a self sniper...But this is better as I don't have to stay glued to my computer...
