what are the addresses ,url's, of european ebays? Do they have stuff that is not on US ebay? do you have to surf each one to get them all? Also I notice that especially France, they will not mail out of the country!!!
Apparently can't use paypal on european ebay's, i guess paying in euros is a problem; banks won't allow you to open a euro account if you don't live there. Nice world.

There is a list of the other Ebay sites in the bottom left hand corner of the Ebay.com site!!

I suppose it depends on what you are buying as to whether the seller will accept Paypal or ship "internationally"!!

Personally, my biggest problem with the 'other' sites, is that I can't understand a word they have written Big Grin

Try emailing one or more of the overseas sellers, most understand English. Try different sites also, many have their listing in English. Keep trying until you find some that ship worldwide. US $'s are converted to Euros on Pay Pal. I wouldn't buy from any that don't take Pay Pal, (although I have) because with Pay Pal you can buy their protection insurance in case of lost items. NEVER ship unless it's registered. I usually pay via credit card thru Pay Pal for overseas buys, you're double protected that way. Big Grin Check the seller's feedback for other US bidders. And yes, you can find items overseas that aren't readily available here.
I buy from sites in Germany, Italy, Netherlands, UK, and others. Some, not all, take Pay Pal. You will just have to keep searching until you find some. One way I found good overseas sites, was to research other bidders on an item I was interested in, find out what they bought and where. (This is also helpful if you want an idea of their max bids) Another way is by the email addresses, they will end in uk, it, de, etc. Eek
I forgot to mention in my above reply, I was told by a German seller, the reason a lot of Europeans do not take Pay Pal is they do not have credit cards. She, and a lot of her friends who sell, have applied for credit cards so they can take Pay Pal. They have seen other sellers do so well after they started taking PP they wanted a piece of the action. It seems the European's do not like the hassle of sending cash either. Big Grin
I've dealt with people in France, Germany, Belgium, Italy. So far so good. The only thing is I don't know why that alot of US sellers don't want to post items overseas. It kinda makes me angry when I could have picked up something cheap that is in a US only auction and have to pay more for a seller that is willing to post things overseas. Is anyone from the US can explain this to me... please if possible.
Cheers
Speaking only for myself and my own experience as a sometime seller, packaging and mailing something overseas involves filling out special forms, etc. and is a lot of hassle. So I would specify "US only" on items starting at US$5 or under because it just wasn't worth jumping through all those hoops at the PO.
Don't mean to be a pain, but I think Europeans are better equipped to trade with other countries. It doesn't appear to be a big deal to them. I'm not sure how many of us would be willing to even buy from Canada.

"Speaking only for myself ... packaging and mailing something overseas involves filling out special forms, etc. and is a lot of hassle." It's just one country to another. The Europeans have a longer history of trading with other countries. Why should it be that much difference with us sending something to Germany than us sending something to North Dakota?
"Why should it be that much difference with us sending something to Germany than us sending something to North Dakota?"

Xenophobia, perhaps. All I know is that I have to itemize contents on one of two USPS forms (which one is determined by overall package size), fill in my name and address as well as the buyer's name and address, specify a value, etc. to send something to Germany. I don't have to do all that extra work sending something to North Dakota.

It's strictly one-way xenophobia in my case; I buy things from the UK, Canada, and Australia frequently.
"Xenophobia" is a possibility. Everything you said about having to itemize, two UPSP forms, package size, etc., is something that we (U.S.) has mandated. Why does it have to be harder to send something to Germany than North Dakota? It's not as hard for the Europeans to send merchandise between countries.

"It's strictly one-way xenophobia in my case; I buy things from the UK, Canada, and Australia frequently." Exactly. Why is incoming so easy, yet outgoing so hard? You discuss how easy it is to buy, but you also bring up how difficult it is to sell. That's wybb's problem. Why can't he buy from U.S.?

Sorry wybb. Sometimes we lose sight of the original issue. But you might agree that between U.S. we're willing to beat this to death.

wybb, I was wrong. It isn't arrogance. It's xenophobia!
