You must not have had children.quote:Originally posted by Serenity:
We don't have slaves in the US and have not had for many, many years.
Well, I guess “not so bad today” is something to be proud of. Yep, “My country’s not so bad today. I’ve seen worse.”quote:Originally posted by Serenity:
Indian, well, that is not so bad today.
I had a feeling you’d say something. Unlike some, I try to avoid being capricious with my choice of words, and statements (there’s the second hint – should I leave bread crumbs?). What do you think, I’m just living on Mumsie’s billions (more hints?)? [throw in a big grin and a winky]quote:Originally posted by Serenity:
As for the paid holiday...hmmm , guess you have to have a job first, right?
Not surprising. Those that don’t learn from the past repeat the mistakes. I dare say those in the past felt “no so bad” about the things they were doing.quote:Originally posted by Serenity:
Don't think I can worry about the past of our country, rick.
Chatter, you must get tried of giving Mrs. M. that advice and watching her not follow it, even though she says she will?quote:Originally posted by Chatter:
Ignore the naysayers, Mrs. M.
I don't think he was referring to you. I read your post, and I think Chatter had someone else in mind.quote:Originally posted by Falcon Gal:
Chatter, I replied to Mrs. M's post about Native Americans. I've lived and taught on one of the reservations. I deleted my post because you'd apparently misread or misconstrued something in it as being against wishing someone a happy Memorial Day or as being a naysayer. Nobody who's read my previous posts in this form would accuse me of that. If you choose to see yourself as the defender of right and are looking for someone to prove yourself against, look a little harder. I'm not the one.
Quite a memorable day.quote:Originally posted by Serenity:
I can't believe all this.
I can’t read Chatter’s mind, and maybe he’ll explain, but I tend to agree with Mrs. M. I think the plurals were more for drama.quote:Originally posted by Serenity:
Falcon, Chatter did not mean you!

Just to keep things pleasant, what is everyone planning on doing today (outside the U.S.)? I assume non-Yanks are working?

You restore clocks, and radios. Don't see how they relate to each other, unless radios use to have gears.
quote:Originally posted by Serenity:
Mike, that is interesting. Do you have any pixs of the radio?
I’m not sure this is still the case, but not that long ago (a few years), the computers for the air traffic control system in the U.S. were still using vacuum tubes, and there was only one manufacturer for these tubes in the known universe, or has that gone down the tubes. Any yeas or neys?quote:Originally posted by Serenity:
Are the tubes good? If not, can you find replacements?
Isn’t Google wonderful!quote:

Very nice! And very clean! Did you already clean it up??
Probably just wanted an electrolytic replacing!quote:
The only radio we had when I was little was my Uncle's - and I haven't ever seen it on eBay. It was a horrible salmon colored bakelite thing with a hum that made all but the strongest signals inaudible.
quote:Originally posted by Serenity:
Mike, that is really, really nice! I remember having one very similar to that when I was young, but being American, it was probably a Crosley.
Are the tubes good? If not, can you find replacements?

Some hifi buffs insist on valves (and they're made visible as a design feature!) rather than all the hi-tech stuff we have today. I don't understand how vinyl records can sound better than CDs but some of the same buffs (maybe a subset or vice-versa) insist this is the case. Maybe it's the kind of music I listen to?

I am glad you started this thread Serenity. Had I not been out of town I would have started it myself. This was the first Memorial Day Service I missed in many years.
I would like to express my appreciation for our nation's veterans.
The very least we can do is take a moment of our time and reflect on the many freedoms made possible by these incredible men and women. As Americans, we owe these individual everything. Because each of them made sacrifices (which included their time, their health, their sanity, or even their lives), we are able to enjoy many freedoms that other countries will never possess. Every Sunday when we go to church, we should thank a vet for our freedom of religion. Every morning when we read the paper, we should thank a vet for our freedom of speech. And every time we see the American flag, we should stand tall and be appreciative to be an American. Our Veterans risked their lives so that generations to come could enjoy a better, stronger version of the America they loved. The least we can do is appreciate and applaud them for their courage.

Going out on a cactus limb here - I don't think that room has any relationship to BJ.quote:Originally posted by Serenity:
Pretty room also!
You must know him very well - I've never been in his bedroom [visualize that image].quote:Originally posted by Serenity:
Hmmm, well, I know him pretty well and I'd say it is BJ!
Maybe you could clear up a rumor. I heard that BJ has a mirror above his bed and he was required by the government to include this warning: “Objects may appear bigger than they are”. Any truth to that? [better add one of these: ]quote:Originally posted by Serenity:
Well, rick, I did and I think ...hmm, well that is a good thing you haven't. Good things do come to people that don't, you know.
OK - you can ask.quote:Originally posted by Serenity:
I don't think so rick, but actually I have never heard of such a thing. May I ask how you came across this?
quote:Originally posted by Serenity:
How did you come across this, rick? I mean is it...ummm..popular or well, just what is it? I could never comb my hair with a ceiling mirror!
bjt (aka Billie), was the "another person", but basrah has come back twice (probably best that we changed the bedroom subject). Also, Steve and I had a hell of a time talking you and Billie into using the General Forum for chat – not that it had much lasting impact.quote:Originally posted by Serenity:
BTW, basrah left us one day because Steve, you, another person, and I were not serious in one of the above catagories! Thus, we went to general, but he never came back!
BJ's back, and witty as ever.quote:Originally posted by bjones9942:
Serenity - alas, that isn't my bedroom. And I believe the only thing appearing larger than it really is would be someone's opinion of himself.
That sounds almost believable.quote:Originally posted by Serenity:
Bj, I know it isn't! But it looks like you with all the rustic stuff!
A kool guy with a kool mirror.quote:Originally posted by Serenity:
Ya, BJ is a kool guy!
That and "Anybody In Here??"quote:Originally posted by Serenity:
If he can stay awake enough hours to weed through all of it! LOL!
That's a lot of cats. Does she now have only 199 cats?quote:Originally posted by Serenity:
I decided to get Bob a cat because I thought it would be good therapy. Well, this lady had a pix and an add in walmart to find a cat a good home. I went out there. She had a beautiful home on the river...with at least 200 cats in it!!
Then, what kind of a cat did you get for Bob?quote:Originally posted by Serenity:
Well, I'd say for a moment she did, but I'll venture to say she has over that now! There were cats in every single room so thick that you had to wade through them!
I just reread that. Does that mean she no longer has a beautiful home? I could understand that with 200 cats.quote:Originally posted by Serenity:

You mean like how this forum gets sometimes.quote:Originally posted by Serenity:
Try to imagine 200 cat peeing and craping all day long...yep.that's the smell!
And, what the devil is a Wilma Faith?quote:Originally posted by Serenity:
You won't believe er name...Wilma Faith! No, I didn't name her!
No.quote:Originally posted by Serenity:
You have a cat, don't you?
"lol" = low on litter.quote:Originally posted by Serenity:
I really don't like animals inside, but it seems they are taking over! lol!
You never listen to me, Mrs. M.quote:Originally posted by bjones9942:
Serenity - alas, that isn't my bedroom.
Trust me. It wasn't me.quote:Originally posted by Serenity:
Hmmm, I thought once you showed a pix of one, but guess not.
I thought you told me you had been in his bedroom.quote:Originally posted by Serenity:
Well, it looks like it should be! He live out west!
quote:Hmmm, well, I know him pretty well and I'd say it is BJ!
It was the, “I went totally crazy and bought (two) beds, similar to this” and “ebay” in the link that was a clue.quote:Originally posted by Serenity:
Well, it looks like it should be! He live out west!
That would be an invasion. So, you've been to his house?quote:Originally posted by Serenity:quote:Hmmm, well, I know him pretty well and I'd say it is BJ!
I know a lot of people, but I try not to invade their bedroom.
Maybe that's why I don't get invited back. That, and a few other reasons.quote:Originally posted by Serenity:
