Okay all this tops the cake,

I won an item that needed to be paid by money order so I used Bidpay to send the money order. Today I get an email from the seller that says I had the money order sent to the wrong address. I cut and pasted it out of his email.
How can anyone not get such a simple thing right -I am so frustrated with seller getting more and more adamant about getting paid and yet there are more and more sellers that shouldn't be able to operate a lemonade stand.

If it went to the wrong address, how does he know you've sent it?

Disorganised sellers are a pain and they seem to be the main ones who insist on money orders. I had one recently who, after I paid, sent a very abrupt email wanting to know how the hell I came up with that figure. After I told him it was from his own email he settled down a bit, but still wanted more money. His delivery was the slowest ever. Add that to several days to get a money order delivered. He recently came up with something else I badly wanted, but I thought 'No thanks - not worth the grief'.

...and that's why I only pay by PayPal (or at the very least a cheque). The address is verified and I can stop/trace a cheque!

Buyers can be a pain too - I had one guy who immediately paid with PayPal despite not knowing the cost of S&H to the USA. I refunded it immediately. He said nothing. I got the correct rate and told him. He said nothing but just paid. Now I know some of you Yanks can be a bit abrupt (read rude) but an apology would have been nice somewhere along the line. Unfortunately I need to cultivate my buyers in this particular niche market so I couldn't be too sarky at his expense.

I could tell you about a few rude eBayers from the UK that I've dealt with, but they are not the people on these boards and it would serve no purpose except to generate bad feelings. There's too much of that out there as it is. People are individuals. Most of the people I've met from here, there, and everywhere else have been great.

I need to get ready for work so I don't have time to proofread this. If you find any spelling or grammar errors, well, have fun.
Regarding money orders (for those living between Canada and Mexico) – my understanding is that money orders from banks (at least mine) are a hassle to trace (don’t know why), but that money orders from the U.S.P.S. aren’t (don’t know why). Also, it’s was somewhat more reassuring for me knowing that the money order was issued by an organization that was backed by Trident subs (don’t ask why).

Well I prefer Paypal but the mature items paypal isn't allowed so I use bidpay MO.

It just seems to me that there are more sellers placing strikes quickly then you ask and they find the payment and apologize but they don't ask where the payment is before the strike.
I now read the negs and neutrals on most all of them and if I don't like it I pass.

Update -
I emailed the seller and asked him if cancelled the money order (the seller has to, not the buyer)

A good lesson for the uninformed. STOP using money orders (bank or otherwise) and start using cashier's checks issued by your bank. If you have a nice account, they will not charge you...just ask. A cashier's check will be typed by the teller and include the name of both the payer and payee and any other information that you might want to include (such as an Ebay number). A cashier's check, as apposed to a money order, can be traced....and after filling out a form and filing a claim, funds can be recovered in full (6 months usually). As a retired banker, I can assure you this is accurate information. Ed.

Totally agree, FG. Rudeness is really on the increase - who could have imagined that there is at least one TV show based on it now! (Weakest Link)
In the days when I dealt with banks a bank cheque (cashier's cheque - same thing?) was expensive. Now it's also impossible because I don't have an account.

For Australian purchases I'd prefer to use Australia Post money orders but I understand Paypal now deals in Oz dollars so I may reconsider.

Increasingly I tend towards "Paypal only", buying and spelling.

My experiences (see above) were based on my eBay dealings. Often when I ask a question about something in USA I get a one line answer, usually without punctuation, certainly without a salutation or a signature. This happens a lot less from UK sellers (but it does happen). That said, UK responses are more likely to have grammatical errors which is probably a reflection on the UK Education system since the 1970s.
Also, if I dare to criticise a seller (bad spelling, no PayPal, that sort of thing) it is usually the USA based sellers who get the most upset. Still, I enjoy a good scrap! Wink

I wouldnt class Jerry as rude. Although the intelligence of the people that go on that show needs to be questioned.

What I dont get is why people actually agree to go on there...I mean...if your partner asked you onto to Jerry Springer...why would you think ANYTHING good was going to come of it??

If you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all:

Jerry Springer: Tell us A what you think about B sleeping with C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J and K?

A: B is a (bleepin bleepity bleep bleep). And C, D, E, F, G, H, I, and J are all (bleeps, bleeps, bleeps) and (bleeps). But, I slept with K.

B: Why you (bleep bleep bleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep). Up your (bleep bleep bleep).

C, D, E, F, G, H, I and J: (bleep bleep bleep bleep bleep) and (bleep bleep bleep bleep bleep bleep bleep bleep bleep).

K: [cleavage shot]

Audience: (bleep bleep bleep bleep bleep bleep).
Jer-ree! Jer-ree! Jer-ree!

If you can’t read lips, you’ll not get much more out of it.

Only in America - thankfully.

DipPenMen,

My personal account is at a different bank than my business account, I haven't been in the bank for my personal account in over 3 years, I was in my business bank for the first time in years last summer (they generally come to my office, it had been so long my brother forgot where the bank was). It’s a 30-45 minute trip for me to go get a money order or cashiers check, I reduce my bid amounts by the cost of the money order.

Regardless of the safety or lack of it, the SELLER gave me the wrong address - I copied it from his email - the address of a business is so fundamental to running a business that I have a hard time accepting it as a normal mistake in the course of business. I gave him 3 different simple ways to solve the problem and he won't do them and bidpay requires both parties to participate as they tell the seller a money order is coming. I can't force the seller to participate nor should I have to do all the work for his mistake but I had to give him detailed instructions as he could not read the instructions on the website. I am the customer; the seller should be more proactive in satisfying the customer and should take some responsibility for their mistake. There are many sellers that can't compose simple letters or email and my point is they are now running home businesses and they aren't very good at the basic business skills. I would rather use Paypal or personal checks but in some transaction I can't

True. I should have said, “Rude? The Jerry Springer Show seems to do a decent job.”

All this got me to look up Jerry’s bio – pretty impressive guy.

I would think the English would enjoy the show. After all, his guests/inmates aren’t English – not technically.

Bad news: Whale tale hasn’t been updated in the Oxford Dictionary.

More: The last I heard, Jesse Sheidlower (a Yank) is editor of the Oxford English Dictionary – the world is going to the dogs (sorry all you dogs out there – didn’t mean that as a putdown).
A person would have to be pretty bored to watch those soap operas. Smile I downloaded Weatherbug and it gives a more up to date weather forecast than the weather channel did. Once in a while they do air something on TV that's worth watching, but I was watching TV for about a half hour every month at the very most. I kept it connected mostly because everybody expects you to have TV, but finally decided to get rid of it and just get a DVD whenever I want something to watch.

Have you seen any good ones lately? I'll be going into town next weekend and could use a few suggestions.
