I did a search, but didn't find any info that solved the following problem.

I have had an ebay account for a while, and I have not changed the account info (user id and password) since I found this tool. I have set up several snipes, some won and some lost. Everything seemed to going fine, but yesterday I got a warning message at the bottom of each of my active snipes:

"WARNING - You stored username or password might be incorrect!" (I don't mean to be petty, but please note the spelling mistake also).

The first thing I tried was to go to my account and re-enter my info. Didn't help. Then I used the verify link, and that came back to tell me that my info was OK, and that my snipes would be placed correctly.

So what do I do to correct the situation? Everything seems to indicate that my info is correct. After all, I have NOT changed anything. Even though it says my info has been verified, I am concerned that it may not place my bids for me when due.

Any ideas?

Two suggestions if you run out of time before support responds:
  1. Try import wizard (brings in auctions from your My Ebay). If that works, that should build up the confidence in snipe placing.
  2. Do a test snipe - pick something cheap inexpensive that you wouldn’t mind owning. Set the snipe amount to the minimum bid (less chance of winning).

I tried using the import wizard, and that sort of worked, but only for the new snipes. However, armed with that fact, I cancelled my snipes that were reporting an error and re-imported them.. This worked, but then I had to go in and reset all my bids. Works for a while, but I would have hated it if I had alot of snipes ready.

Thanks

I gave you some bad advice. Use the link left by Serenity.
I also have this RED WARNING---I am a new user, as of this week but have a WARNING notice that my username and password may not match. As per the other poster in February, all my information matches. It is March 09. I am also wondering why the fix to this posting is not on the forum. I tend to try to repair problems by using public information---the search in FAQ does not show anything under WARNING and the string for this posting does not have a fix. I have also reported my specific concern via the link provided above and look forward to a solution. Thanks.
The message I get says WARNING -your stored user name or password might be incorrect. I've checked rechecked and checked and it absolutely matches EBAY. I also note that some bids regardless of whether I win or lose were not registered at all on EBAY. example..i bid $30, item starts at $1. Item is wond for $ 50 hooray for winner. I'm not upset--such is life but on bidding history---no registering of my AS bid for $30, i never went in the que. Anyhow one problem at a time. I would like the warning off to instill confidence this is working as it should. RED warnings are scarey .
I use the same bidding conventions as EBAY. I appreciate your outline of the technical guildelines around bidding. I am on EBAY. I have your toolbar. I see the current price on EBAY and bid $20 to $50 or $60. It is always more than twice the current bid so something else is clearly wrong with why my information is not listed as correct.

Can you come up with another reason? As I use ebay as the up to date basis for bidding, and base my AS bids on the current price, and I bid at least double or more the price listed, I am well beyond one increment.

Something else is wrong. I want to resolve this or move along to another program. What made you think I was not bidding in large amounts beyond the minimum? Assuming I'm doing everything correct, as a scientist in my life, what else can we look at as creating the problem. I see others having similar challenges.

Thanks

Do you understand that a snipe is a one time placed, at the last moment proxy bid? It does not show unless it is big enough to win at the time it is sent to Ebay and that is seconds before the auction ends. If , at that time it is not more than the highest bid, it will not be placed. Just like a proxy is placed, or not, because that is what it is!

1. Few, if any, of us work for AS so it isn't our product - I certainly don't. We're just experienced users who lurk here and share that experience when we can.
2. You need to understand how AS (and other sniping programs) work. It bids, on your behalf, just before the Auction ends.

So, you can set a snipe up when the Auction is at $30 for, say $50. When the snipe 'fires' the Auction could be at £60. Just as if you'd bid manually, you'll 'lose' and your bid won't feature in the bidding list.

However, if the auction was still at $30 then AS will bid your $50 and eBay's proxy bidding will kick in, placing your bid at the next increment - say $31 - and your bid will appear on the list.

I suggest you read the FAQs, read the forum and then decide whether to stay or go. If you understand how AS works then you'll stay, if not then good luck elsewhere...

Serenity,
I understand what a snipe is. I'm not sure why you're explaining to me the "snipe". It's easy for me to see what an opening price is and to determine my "snipe", the maximum amount I'm willing to pay. Of course the myriad thousands of others that could potentially bid more "live" or snipe more on any other program could win the item. Why are you explaining snipes to me or anyone else? My dillema is that the program is essentially telling me I have the wrong user name and ID and patently that's wrong.
Hey folks...by the way, before this "flames" outward, I want to backtrack, no more tutorial needed on "sniping". I just want all the red warnings to go away. Bidding and sniping were well understood and my original posting indicated I'd crawled all over the forums and FAQ. I'm greatful for helping communities. For computer problems, I've relied on annoyances.org
The tone there is one of co-solving a problem, not bashing the troubled party over the head with a lamp. I'm only trying to insure this is working properly. The questions about the bidding mechanics I posed are secondary to the fact that I have red warnings on each bid. It would only follow that my confidence would be rattled by this. One helper has told me everything is working fine despite the red warnings. I'm inclined to believe this. By the way, I do like this program immensely, thus I'm here. Go easy on me and other new patrons please.

I was trying to explain to you the likeness between a snipe and a proxy bid! I thought it might help you understand what you were asking about the bids placed and not placed. You did address two issues, I believed, but, I guess not. Hope you have success.
