I had a snipe that appears to have never gone off or is confused. My amount was more than enough to initiate the snipe yet the auction ended, my bid never went in and my snipe still shows Ready as the reason for not winning. Can anyone shed some light on this? I checked all the FAQs and found nothing that related to this.
THanks,

You could file a support case from the help page (very bottom) and/or wait for someone from support to come onto the forum.

Sara visits the forum from time to time, but most answers/suggestions/guesses here come from other AS users. If you want a timely answer, you may be better off filing a support case.

Good Luck, and WELCOME to the forum.
Thought I'd share the answer from AS. See below.

Almost all Did Not Win and Not In Time messages are due to lead time. The default 5 second lead time, while adequate for most weekday situations, just isn‘t enough for evenings and weekends. And anything under 5 seconds is strongly not recommended.

We snipe from an atomic clock which calibrates our servers. We snipe every auction at least 3 times---from 3 different servers and locations. 2 snipe exactly on time, and one server tries to adjust for eBay server lag according to how long their average server is taking. Remember that it‘s in our interests for you to win: if you don‘t win, we don‘t get paid---so we do our best to see that you do indeed win!

You should increase your lead time to 7-12 seconds on auctions that close 5-11 p.m. PST, and on weekends, when eBay traffic is heavier.
There are risks to sniping. No service or software guarantees your wins. Here‘s the link to our page on this:

Leo?? Well that's a first. My alias is the result of someone beating me to the punch. I used to be a very active Cowboy Action Shooter and for those not familiar with that sport, we all shoot under aliases such as Wild Bill or Muleskinner Mike or similar. My alias is Snake Oil, but it was already taken on Ebay. So I decided to go with Snakeoleo. Kind of a lowfat cowboy.
By the way, AS gives you free snipes if their snipe was too late. I cropped the reply above to save bandwidth, but actually did everyone a disservice by doing that. Here's the link for free snipes.

You can redeem free snipes for Did Not Win or Not In Time messages at:http://www.auctionsniper.com/freeSnipes.aspx

Thanks and regards,
Snakeoleo (low fat is good),
You can go into the *my space* and edit your name to be "Snake Oil" in here. Your forum name doesnt have to be your ebay username and well actually, most seem to think its a good idea for it NOT to be the same as your ebay username (that may just be paranoia though Wink )

I would be very surprised if we already had a SnakeOil in AS, and if we did you could just funk it up a little with some ~~ or **'s.

It will save you from being called *Leo* in the future. Smile
I apologize if my use of the monniker Leo was offensive. I simply looked at the screen name and the last three letters jumped out at me as being a first name. It seemed easier than retyping Snakeoleo.

It had not occurred to me that oleo was one word, though I am cetainly old enough to know what oleo is. Would Snake be better, or must I use the entire screen name? Sorry. Frown

Chatter, it is I who should apologize if I gave the impression I was bothered by the Leo moniker. Actually, I was amused by it. Feel free to use whatever abbreviation works. I would never take offense to someone shortening my alias for the ease of typing, or any other reason for that matter. My comment regarding changing my alias was purely from a convenience POV. I have several aliases imposed on me by systems at my workplace, some that require certain combinations of letters and numbers, some just numbers. I get no say so in what they are in many cases. The same goes for passwords that correspond to those aliases. The result is I end up with a list of aliases and passwords on my desk because my biological RAM was maxxed out long ago. I try to limit this in my personal systems. Forums and such normally get one of a couple of aliases. Sites where security is a concern get the unique aliases.
Plus, I've been using email as my primary form of written communication since long before the internet came to be. Remember dial up email services like PC mail? As such I rarely take offense to anything sent in a general message. I've found that 99.9% of the time, something that might seem antagonistic or offensive to the reader was never intended to be that way by the sender.
regards,
Whoa, dying the oleo is way beyond my memory. If I'm not mistaken, oleo was something that came out during WWII, right? Oleo is a shortened version of the full name, Oleo margarine. I guess oleo became the kleenex name for butter replacements back in the 40's and 50's. You don't hear it much anymore. My Mom called all margarines oleo right up until she died in '92.
A quick side note... remembering oleo and the color buttons has more to do with where you live than age. Ontario, Canada lifted its ban on "butter colored" margarine in 1994. Colored margarine may still be illegal in the province of Quebec. The laws were a result of lobbying by dairy farmers who didn't want poor consumers to be misled into thinking the stuff was butter.
Unilever, a major maker of margarine, has applealed the law to the Supreme Court of Canada. It was expected to be heard this summer but I have not yet heard the decision.
