Sorry Jab - you know I am quite a lazy seller I dont have the fancy schmancy stuff. I did make an attempt to read up about it, but I prolly got sidetracked by some new jeans, or shoes, or something Shiny

Maybe you could get a friend to volunteer to be an escrow agent... But would the other party trust them?

i think the fair trade tyhingie would be better on your listing than the escrow (sorry typing one handed as i am eating)

I will NOT use escrow. I think it is just leaving you open to problems. I say no escrow and have never had it challenged.

...reason I asked was because I just listed an item I'm HOPING will go for $500+, and was wondering if accepting escrow may be attractive to bidders. But if Mrs.M has sold bunches of big ticket items WITHOUT escrow, I don't see why I should bother!

Well, the escrow co. holds your money while this "nut", we will call him, looks over your item. He thinks, hmm, I'll tell them this or that is wrong and they'll come down on the price rather than take it back. Just one thought on the subject!

Sounds like a scam, Mrs.M! I hadn't even thought of that. I think I'll avoid escrow if I can. I'll just have to convince any potential buyers what a wonderful & trustworthy person I am! Will any of you guys be references for me? Maybe I can get dam_mad? Wadya think?

Listed the item less than 2 hours ago in a 10-day listing. It already has 2 bidders & bid is at $150. That's good, right?

Mrs.M. I gave it alot of thought. There are similar items on ebay, but not a lot. Some bidding activity, but not gobs. The item is an older musical instrument that MAY have collector value OR could be used.

I like ending my auctions on a Sunday. In past auctions, I've noticed that often the most (sometimes ONLY) bidding activity happens on Saturday & Sunday. It dawned on me if I posted on a Thursday night with a 10-day listing, it would have exposure to TWO Sats. & Suns. Seemed like a decent strategy and worth the extra fee.

I didn't do something stupid, did I?

I think thats a great strategy Jab especially for an item like that. For me it wouldnt work as I list in amongst the catergories that have 1000's of listings everyday...I find that I only get in the action when my items are on the last day or from my regulars.

Jabber, probably not in that case. I find in most instances that people look and bid at the first and during the last 24 hours. Sometimes if someone looks at the first and decides to watch it, when it is such a long period, they tend to forget about the item. I use a one day auction for little things and actually use a three for things that are in the thousands. I am far from an expert in old musical instruments and I can see your reasoning, certainly! It makes sense to me!

....what do I HAVE?!? (Ever have one of those moments?) The bidding has zipped past my $525 reserve with over 9 days to go in the listing! No snipers here, that's for sure! Got about half dozen e-mail queries about end auction early, what money am I looking for, etc. Told all I plan to let listing run at least thru weekend before making any early-end decisions. Got one e-mail that suggests item may actually be a model 11 years OLDER than I thought. Wow! That's nice! >I'M< almost tempted to bid on the thing!

10 days is a loooooooooooooooong time, but I looooooooooove the anticipation - unless a cute little 3 or 5 dayer (must accepts Paypal - "Is that legal?") comes along (maybe it's a guy thingy).

It happens, jabber, and when it does,it is exciting! I sold something once that I expected to go for $2000. It flew up to $6000.! I was ONE happy camper! Also, I agree...end it early for what reason??

Are your bidders established? If not, you might want to get their ID rundown while the auction is running. Once it has ended, you only have access to the winner...its nice to have the backup's info on hand just in case.

Only whie your auction is still running...go to your My page...click search at the top of the page..then click member search...then contact info, fill it out..you will need their bidding ID and the auction #. The results will be emailed to you, includes a phone # and email, among other things. After the auction, only the winner is available!

Just broke 4 digits in the bid! -- NOT including the decimals! Thinking of renting a Brinks truck to store the dang thing! LOL!

Mrs.M, thanks for the instructions how to get ID info. I'll wait until closer to auction end and maybe get the top 5 bidders info. That way I'll be more comfortable sending out 2-chance offers if top bidder balks.

Now I'm getting worried about shipping this "priceless" thing! LOL! Nice problem to have!

With that much action so early, I can only think of two reason to end the auction early...

1) Somebody hijacked your Brinks truck, or

2) secretly you HATE snipers...
