Yes, I was blocked one time on an auction by a seller. I used AS....I never contacted the seller before on any of his auctions, don't know him from Adam, and he had over 2000 plus feedback (all positive) and he never changed his ebay id (so I could see if it was someone who may have changed his name and may have been someone I did not have pleasant dealings with before).

So to make a long story short, I was shocked and in disbelief Confused that my bid was blocked by this seller, and I would have won by the way,
so I thought maybe the seller was able to block bids via AS somehow, but I had no idea how because I understand fully how it works.
Since my bid never got thru, there is no
way the seller would have received email from
AS anyway, even if I did have that feature turned on.

Still recovering from shock, I emailed the seller asking him if he blocked me for some reason or was able to block AS bids somehow,
and he said, no, he never blocked either.

So I'm still scratching my head. The seller must have an elite group of bidders or something and bans others from bidding to protect his perfect feedback, I don't know.
Well, I was out of town for the day and when I got home my son comes up to me and says so-and-so won the auction for so much money. I was like, "WHAT! My snipe bid was 125 bucks more than that! How could I not have won?"

I checked my email and there was nothing from ebay and nothing from AS. I went to ebay and checked the auction, there was nothing anywhere about my bid being blocked or anything.
So I logged into AS and all I see in MySnipes
was Banned by Seller in the status column, and that isn't even one of AS's messages listed in their help section.
Go figure.
So, it looks like the snipe didn't go through for some reason and AS might have got the reason wrong. I'd log a fault call via the HELP tab and, if nothing else, they might give you some free snipes!

As a check - try a manual bid followed by an immediate retraction on one of this guy's auctions - if it accepts it then I guess it means you're not banned after all! [Don't bid too high on something tacky just in case it goes wrong and you win!].

I did try and bid on one of these sellers items today, and low and behold, yes, I am blocked!!!
I emailed the guy again and no reply. So he was full of it when he said he wasn't blocking me, and he doesn't feel he needs to respond to my inquiries why. Pretty unreal for someone with 2000 plus feedback with no neutrals or negatives, isn't it? I must have done something to offend him in a previous lifetime.
Confused
Only thing I can think of, is someone else was meant to be blocked. Perhaps they meant to add an ID and made a typo. Maybe they just don't like snipers and got your ID from a friend and they are just leading you on... letting you try to bid again and fail.

At any rate you've verified you made their blocked bidders list. Even if they can't remember why or for which auction, odds are they feel it was for good reason. I doubt they will spend much time looking into it for you.

Luck to ya.

Very interesting point....yes, I have given very justifiable negatives to very unreasonable sellers (in my opinion anyway), but only like 2 or 3 but a couple years ago. I would never give negative feedback for little disagreements and ALWAYS try to work things out first based on promises made by the seller, etc. and then they don't follow through. I myself have all positive and no negative or neutrals. So I guess I made myself a target of investigation when I asked the seller a couple of innocent questions about the item. I just asked some general questions with a 'please' and a 'thank you', nothing at all that was offensive. So he must have used that to check if I had ever given negatives or something. Who knows? That very well may be the way he blocks buyers: checking their feedback of negatives against others...having said that, I'm off to check the other bidders of that particular auction to see if they have left negatives for others...stay tuned...
Well, the winning bidder has given tons of negatives, so that's out the window.
Plus there is no way for the seller to know who is going to be bidding on their items beforehand unless the potential bidder asks the seller a question. So that doesn't seem likely.
So for some reason the seller just plain doesn't like me or that I purchased similar items like his in the past or there is some kind of conspiracy going on....I do buy the same type of items as quite a few other people and find myself bidding against them in many auctions. So who knows, one of the other bidders may have contacted the seller and inquired if I was asking questions about the item and asked him to ban me. But that would be far-fetched and pretty low of anyone to do that. I thought maybe the seller was blocking those with less than so many feedback, but there were bids by buyers with less than 10 feedback, so that doesn't appear to be a likely scenario. So I guess I'll never know.
Please forgive me for bringing this up again.

I have spent a lot of time reading the eBay boards and have learned quite a bit about some of the people there. (yes, I bore easily! Big Grin)

dandaman - I don't know if you ever found out why you were banned from a particular sellers' auctions but I have come across reasons that it MIGHT be - and I stress 'might.'

1. If you have ever posted anything on the eBay boards about a problem and the board determined that you were at fault - sellers will add you to their blocked list.

2. If you've ever sent a seller a derogatory email - they'll block you.

3. If you weren't very nice in a feedback you left.

4. If you've ever been slow at paying or not paid at all.

5. If you've ever questioned a seller's auction or their integrity - spelling, graphics, something of the sort.

6. If you have a 'habit' of leaving mainly 'neutral' or 'negative' feedback.

7. If you have less than 'x' amount of feedback and you bid on an item and the seller thinks that you may be an NPB.

These are just a few of the reasons that I've found that sellers will block a bidder. It seems that if one seller complains and other sellers agree - you can hit the BBL and never know it.

Some of the reasons that I have discovered are NUTS! One seller blocked a guy because his English was so bad that she couldn't understand a question that he asked! Another blocked a bidder because he/she felt that the bidder was stupid! (This was based on an email that the seller had received.)

I don't know if you fit any of these things - you don't sound like you do - but some of the sellers are so totally paranoid, that a person can get blocked for the littlest things!

Again, my apologies to all for resurrecting this.
