A: Since the last shot was fired in India (fighting took place on 4 continents) and not Indiana, then that’s an affirmative.

A: The English retained their possessions in the West Indies.

Part 1

Q: Do some historians consider the Revolutionary War as the first American civil war?
A: Depends on the historian. The colonists were equally divided into three groups: 1) Patriots; 2) Loyalist; 3) Undecided. The good news, the Patriots (militia and partisans) were considered guerilla fighters – they didn’t fight fair.

Q: Was the Declaration “actually” signed on July 4, 1776?
A: Depends on the historian. Some say that was the day it was sent out to Kinko’s for Xeroxing.

Q: How long before the declaring of the Declaration did the fighting start?
A: Lexington Green (“the shot heard around the world”) was April 19, 1775. April 19 is coincidently the date that the first soldiers were killed in the “second” American Civil War by the good people of Baltimore. And also coincidently, lads from Massachusetts were the ones to die on both those April 19’s.

Q: Did many of the founding fathers use the outcome of the war as an excuse to not pay their English debts?
A: Now, that’s a silly question!

Bunker Hill didn’t really happen. The rebels got confused and fortified, and fought, at Breed’s Hill.

Before the Revolutionary War, George Washington commanded troops only two times and those were in small battles. One of them started the French and Indian War and the other he lost.

Is it “inalienable” or “unalienable” rights and do they apply to aliens?

As a British merchant officer, John Paul, to avoid a trial for killing a mutinous crewmember, fled to the colonies and added “Jones” to the end of his name (I would have recommended “Smith”).

Part 3

A fourth of Washington’s army (Continentals) mutinied over pay and enlistment duration, wounding 2 American officers and killing one in the process. When another 200 soldiers mutinied, Washington sent troops and had the ringleaders (sergeants) arrested. Lots were picked and 3 of the sergeants where shot by the remaining sergeants.



July 4th trivia:

• John Adams (2nd U.S. President) and Thomas Jefferson (3rd President), both died on the same day – the 50th anniversary of Independence Day.
  
• Vicksburg (last Southern blockade of the Mississippi River during the American Civil War) surrendered on July 4, 1863. For the next 81 years, which was well over 2 years after the attack on Pearl Harbor, Vicksburg did not celebrate Independence Day.
