Hello all:

Not sure if this will happen, but there MAY be slower response from ebay as auctions close on Sept 16 and 17th.. most likely heavier on the 17th right up until midnight (PDT). I was listing items up until midnight (PDT) last night to take advantage of the "2-day 1-cent gallery" promotion. I noticed that my listings weren't showing up on search for HOURS after uploading them - which would indicate that eBay was having trouble processing everything... which would also possibly indicate a LOT of other sellers were doing the same thing I was.

So... there may be a lot more auctions closing (and consequently heavier bid traffic) on those days.

Just a thought and I may be completely WRONG!!!

Thanks for the inside tip, Dag. The summer doldrums were bound to end and it looks as though this weekend it's back to business as usual. I'd echo your advice to check lead times carefully against actual eBay processing speed as determined by the site's reaction time to simple commands like searching. AS's procedure of adding a few seconds to your lead time when eBay is slow may or may not work. Eek
Hello -- !!

Maybe it would be a good move -as a seller- to avoid such promotions in order to get top dollar for your items. I'm wondering if perhaps the best time to end auctions is later Sunday night when the traffic isn't so bad. Us snipers will have set their snipes in advance anyway... might as well plan things so that potential bids don't get frozen out in the frenzy. What do you guys think??

Thank you and best wishes,
BDS
I typically list items so they will close between 6:00 - 10:00pm Sunday nights (central standard time).
I list items with the knowledge that most people are still bidding manually and if they are going to try to snipe, may try to snipe manually as well.
As Rick mentioned, it would be less likely that someone would stay up into the wee hours of the morning to place a last minute bid.
(is that what you meant Rick?)

Right.
I see your point.

With AS, all that could change. Do you ever wonder what it would be like if the majority of bids were being placed by automated sniping software?
A 10-day auction would seem so excessive to me.
It would sit there all week with no bids, and all the action would take place at the last few seconds.
You wouldn't have bidding wars or proxy bids.
It would almost be like a real "live" auction, only in hyperdrive. Smile
