You can find evidence to support most anything, if you look hard enough. Believing is seeing.
I think maybe it depends on where you live, how much human kindness you see, Rick.
We are survivalist by nature, so the more people in any given area, the less compassion you will find.
Cruelty Vs human kindness:
I think if human kindness were given a proportional amount of time on the evening news, you could blink, and miss all the bad. It’s unfortunate that good news, is often not news worthy.

Bottom line..bad news sells.
When we lived in Tennessee, the population was not heavy. Neighbors knew each other. If someone needed help. you need not ask, your neighbors would be there. Here, for an example, the population is heavy. My husband had the rescue and ambulance here and they took him to the hospital. Not one neighbor even asked why. In fact, when the driver got lost and went to a neighbor's house, she would not even come to the door to direct them!

Not true. What happened after 9/11? Salem witch trials? (very small population). Will debate tomorrow if you like.
I am speaking of day to day life, Rick..today. When you have something like 9/11 you have an exception because you have a "popular cause".
I think what people forget is, if your house burns, just one house, it is a catastrophe of one. ( and Salem was not small for the times)
Interesting...I went to google and typed apathy verses compassion in America. You will find many entries, but one subject!
