I would be curious to know what the "reservations" about PayPal may be. I have been using the service for quite a while without any problems.

So have I, without a problem. I understand that the concern centers around the level of security afforded to sensitive information like bank account numbers. And, of course, PayPal is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of eBay. Keeping things in the family and all that....

I too wondered why the reservation about PayPal, and now I know!

One of my auctions was won recently and the item paid for with PayPal. Turns out, the person was a scam name on eBay, and stole access to someone's PayPal account, and paid with it. Three days later, the payment was revoked.

Lucky for me, I had not yet had a chance to ship the item (and now I ALWAYS wait 3 to 5 days to ship), but several others duped by this person were screwed out of their money. I guess AS just does not want the potential problems of stolen accounts? Or maybe they do not like the fee structure?

Hi, Orubin. Glad to hear you didn't lose out in that transaction. But you can't really make a blanket judgment against Paypal based on that incident. It's not any different than if the crook had gotten a hold of another person's credit card and used it thru Billpoint or C2it or any other electronic payment service.

Actually, the fact that Paypal caught onto the scam and reversed the charges, is a testament to their ability to protect their customers!
I use Paypal whenever possible. If it had been my account that somebody had compromised and used, I would expect nothing less from Paypal! They did the right thing by getting the money back for the victim. That's part of their fraud protection.

Any merchant, no matter how large or small, will tell you there is always a risk of taking a bad check, a fraudulent credit card, or what have you. Fortunately, on eBay, that risk significantly diminished in comparison to the "real world."
