Oh man how do I explain this one? Am I in trouble?

You should simply ignore the e-mail. This eBay newbie, obviously lacking the experience to even begin to understand how eBay works, is, consequently imagining impossible scenarios. (He probably saw the auction in the last minute and, like so many impulsive eBayers, assumed that it was "his.") Had he won, he would have received e-mails from eBay to show it. We won't even get into the bid history clearly showing that he did not win.

Even he sends any more e-mails, refer him to the seller and eBay, either of whom will be pleased to educate him further. You, on the other hand, will have your item.

P.S. Sniping and sniping software are not prohibited on eBay. There is no way you would be "in trouble." I find it interesting that this newbie demanded an explanation from you. Perhaps he already asked the seller, who told him to pound sand.

Of course. Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that I thought I was doing something illegal. Like you said "This eBay newbie, obviously lacking the experience to even begin to understand how eBay works, is, consequently imagining impossible scenarios.", so needless to say I was worried that if I had told him about Auction Sniper it would have created a whole bunch of unwarrented accusations and uneccessary hub-bub.

Even if it did happen like he said he did (which I don't believe happened), he's coming to the wrong place to get his answers. It's not my fault, what me worry?

Well, I don't know if he demanded it, but I think he was a little frustrated. This is what he wrote:

Ok, so maybe it was a little demanding...

So, I guess I'm leaning towards the non-responce.

Refer him to the bid history - sounds like it's in black and white showing your bid 10 secs before item end. Surely no argument can follow!?

Better still, take a chance and tell him how he was beaten. He might whinge or he might register and give you three free snipes...

Either way the item's yours!

ps. what was its item number so that we can all share in your glory!?!
