AS didn't answer my question, either. I asked them if they could put the link back so that I could have a custom avatar. Their answer had nothing to do with the question I asked.

So has Tyler gone out riding Tilly yet? How's life?

Support said the searches were indeed down. Thanks for the in-depth response guys. They did not even mention the avatar problem.
Personally, I still think we are being subjected to a little revenge. Only one response from Sara on this subject, which I saw anyway. If AS really wanted these problems fixed they would have been fixed by now. It has not been a few days, but a few weeks! Since no mention has been made of the avatar problem, maybe avatars are going to join private messaging.

Avatars haven't been downloadable on BM (same company as AS) either, so I would assume this was a business decision, and not because of “revenge”. The search problem is an Infopop problem, something outside of AS’ control.

BM has also disabled private messaging (Infopop's default is set to disabled). It’s probably best. AS maybe under the belief that this forum is here to help snipers, and that’s why they pay for it.

It was like the decision to cut down pictures – just a business decision, and not because of whiners.

Who knows – maybe Sara was being included in too many private topics.

As the poster, obviously, or it should be. Why the uncertainty? Even Infopop’s documentation states that the moderator can’t view posts. I thought that was put to bed a long time ago. Don’t tell me this is still an item on the list of Conspiracy Theories?

I also have an explanation for why private posts’ view counts would “appear” to have changed, but since citing Infopop’s manual hasn’t changed the opinion about the moderator’s authority to view private posts, it would appear a waste of time discussing a theory about something only one person seems to have experienced and seems to have imprinted on the wrong idea.

It's still a little early, in that election results aren't complete, but it doesn't appear to be winning much support. I count one definite negative vote, and two that seem to be questioning the theory, or at a minimum, confused by it.

If you want a customer avatar enter the URL for it. We've never made uploading them to our site an option and don't plan on it. As far as I know entering the URL works for anyone that wants. I certainly haven't changed a thing in the message board permissions to disallow them once I added it so that everyone could have one.

The main problem with an ear infection is I dont know whether I am yelling at others or not. At work yesterday, I was apparently talking to myself *very loudly* - Not Good!!

Tilly and Tyler are getting along like a house on fire. Til is such a goofy pup, I remember when Clyde was little, he was a very arrogant puppy, Tilly is *silly* (much like Taz was). She will walk along and wag her tail with her body curled and whack herself in the face and look surprised...like..."who did that?". She is all legs are very clumsy - much like Tyler.

Something has changed, or I'm very, very, very missing something. I can't see anyway to add a URL. It use to accept one.

When I bring up the Avatar Selection page on Infopop, I see “Custom Avatar” to the right of “Avatar Set”. “Custom Avatar” doesn’t appear on this forum, nor on BM’s forum, but it use to, at least on this forum.

And, has anyone noticed that I no longer rock?

Their work around is to turn private messaging back on! So that isn't much of a work around. Obviously they musta had some strange bug in their system that if you turned off private messaging that the searches stopped working. In any case I'm very glad that searching will be working again in their next release.

BTW if anyone wanted to archive any of their old private messages let me know and I can turn the feature back on for a day you can agree on so anyone that wants can get in and grab them.

Strange because it comes up for me when I click on any of your profiles. Perhaps thats because I'm a board admin though. It's hard for me to test because of that. I'll go and try setting up a test account so I can play around with it and get that working. It was working and I'm pretty sure I didnt change anything that would have turned that off.

I'm jealous! We've filed 3 bug reports there over the past few months and the average time has been about 8-10 hours. Still pretty good though. Perhaps using their message boards is faster than filing a trouble ticket.

Once the search feature is working again I've got a fun little quest planned for some free snipes!

Democracies aren’t all that efficient (hard to get more than one person to agree). With that said, my “vote” would be for Sara to announce a date, any date, allowing for a 7 day heads-up notice, then “Hasta La Vista, Baby (Private messages/email)”.

I vote YES! I would also like PT left on for more than a day in case I don't have time to do reading/archiving I'd like to do on the "chosen day".

BTW, it would be interesting to see if searches return with PT turned on. How about this thought? Why not turn PT on and leave on until the search glich (with PTs OFF) is fixed? Seems like a really easy work-around fix of the search bug!

Another thought -- since the PT OFF & search bug (two seemingly unrelated, but nevertheless apparently interacting, features) seems to be the case; might turning ON PT bring back Custom avatars??? Just putting forth a testable theory....

Ya, you cant upload your avatar to be stored on our server, but you can enter a custom URL. So that's normal I think.

Trust us... it's not there...

There is no way to upload anything. This is the screen I get when I try. (mine works, cuz I uploaded before the problem started)

Notice the lack of 'custom'.

I've been trying every few days, and that's all I get, too.

ok, i turned on private messaging. See if the avatars work. I suppose the fricking search will work too. I'm going to turn it off again sometime next week after Infopop has done their update.
