Hi to all,

I just lost a bid on eBay using Auction Sniper.

AS put in my bid with 9 seconds remaining. I requested 7 seconds lead time. The winning bid shows only a $5.00 increment higher bid but shows an earlier time. Is that a proxy bid?

My max bid through AS was at least $75.00 higher than the winning bid. What happened? How did I lose?

I've filed a report with AS asking the same thing but I thought I would see if anybody here can help me understand what happened.

Also, the only place that the item shows under is the "My Watches" tab. It does not show up under "My Snipes" all, today, ended, archived... nothing.

Has this happened to anybody else?

Hi,
I lost a bid to another bidder even though I had a higher max bid. When I check eBay, it shows that AS put in a bid for me, but the other bidder shows a bid at the exact same second that beat my bid. Also, on your website, I can only find the item in the "my watches" tab. When I check the "my snipes" section, I don't see the item at all. So there is no way I can check on the reason that I lost the bid.
Can you look into this item and help me understand why I lost? Furthermore, can you explain why my snipe only shows under my watches and does not show up under my snipes. Also, under my watches, it looks like the item has not sold and it shows an old low bid.

Thank you,

Dean S.

Hello,

I am sorry to see the difficulties you have been facing while sniping with Auction Sniper.

I checked your account and see that the item #xxxxxxxxxxxx shows under 'MY watches' and this is indicative of the fact that it never moved from this folder to 'My Snipes' folder.

However if you still feel that you placed your snipe, I would want to know whether you remember checking this under 'Active' snipes of 'MY snipes' folder. Please know that Auction Sniper is a self managed automated tool and so until you make any modification, the snipe remains in whatever state it would originally be. It seems that you have set your max amount but since it was not set properly, your snipe could not be placed.

In future, whenever you import any snipe from eBay to your watches, please ensure that you click on the 'Snipe it Now' button located at the right side of the item under 'My Watches'. Once you click on that button it will move the snipe to the 'ADD A NEW SNIPE' window wherein you can enter your max bid amount, lead time etc. At the other side if you happen to edit your snipe within the 'My Watches' it still stays there only and does not get placed.

Do let us know if you have any other question.

Sincerely,
Auction Sniper Support

Sam,

Thanks for your quick reply. I think I checked "My Snipes" and found it odd that it was not there, but I thought everything was ok because I could find it in my watches and it showed my max bid. I am certain that after importing the item to my watches, I set up a snipe. How could it have saved my max bid had I not?

Why should I have to manually move the snipe to any other folder if I've clicked on the item and set up a snipe?

Of course I checked my snipes, but when I didn't see it there, I looked around, found it in my watches and saw that it saved my max bid and went about my business with the false confidence that I was all set.Frown

Maybe there was a glitch in the software that did not automatically move my snipe to the "My Snipes" area?

I am very unhappy with the whole situation.Frown

Hello,

Thanks for getting back to us.

The Watch List is just that, a Watch List - and it does allow you to enter a Max Bid, but it also provides a button "Snipe It Now" while the items are still active. In order to have a snipe set up from a Watch, you do need to use the "Snipe It Now" button, otherwise the item is only being Watched.

The Import Wizard tool allows you to set items imported from your eBay Watch List directly as snipes, and does not put them on the Watch List.

If you do not find a snipe record in the My Snipes area of the My Snipes page of your account with the All or Active tabs active, the snipe is not set - that is the area where all active snipes will show with a Ready status when they are set up.

Apologies for any confusion this may have caused.

If you have any other questions or encounter further difficulties, please don't hesitate to ask!

Sincerely,
Auction Sniper Support

Craig,

Thanks again for the quick response. I now understand that if the item does not show in "my snipes" then it is not active. Lesson learned. I did check in "my snipes" and when I didn't see it there, I found it in my watches, WITH a max bid. I just thought it was a glitch or possibly a server delay that prevented my item from showing in the "my snipes" folder.

I am positive that I clicked the snipe set up from my watch. How is it that I can set a max bid without finalizing activating a snipe? That would be like setting up a wish list of how much I MIGHT want to pay! That just does not make any sense.

Maybe the software should have a reminder that the snipe is not active. Furthermore, don't let users set a max bid on a watch, when that max bid is doing nothing other than confusing someone into thinking that anything at all is happening with that item.

Again, lesson learned, but I think there are a few improvements that would prevent this from happening in the future.

Hello Dean,

I have passed your comments in the form of a feature request for changes to the Watches page on to our developers for their consideration in a future site update.

Again, apologies for any confusion this may have caused.
That was all the communication between myself and the support staff.

They were very prompt with replies.

I understand that I should have not been satisfied that my snipe was only showing in my watch folder. But since it showed my max bid, I assumed the snipe was active.

Why did it let me set a max bid that did nothing?

The bid was never sniped.

Oh well, like I said lesson learned on my end.

For all of you out there, maybe it was one time glitch, but when you set up a snipe from a watch, confirm that it shows in your active snipes folder. I don't think anybody should have to manually add it to that folder but I didn't write the software!

Good luck, and happy sniping!

Dean
