Hello,

some time ago I've experienced that my last seconds bid set with AS didn't get placed... I asked for possible reasons and I found out that it happened because it was a Sunday evening...and on Sunday evenings there are too many users connected to Ebay and their sistem slows down... so I decided to try to slow down Ebay on my convenience and I did an experiment... last Sunday I've been bidding on an Item with 8 different Auction Snipers selecting various lead times and bids slightly higher according to the lower lead time ( at 3secs I selected my highest bid )... only one bid out of 8 took place... and I won the Auction... At this point I'm not so sure about the result of my experiment... Did I jam myself risking to not placing a single bid on the "desired" item OR I succeded in overloading Ebay's bidding system avoiding oder bidders to place their bids (I got this Item for the half of my highest bid!) ????

Best regards...

The following is from an article I found. Dated Dec 22, 2003

  • There are nearly 95 million eBay users who spend $894 per second.
  • Every day, more than 2 million new items are added to the eBay marketplace, more than 10 million bids are placed, and more than 100,000 new people register to buy and sell on eBay.
  • At any given moment, eBay is conducting some 19 million auctions, divided into more than 45,000 different categories.
If you got a thousand friends to do the same thing all at the same time, maybe eBay would notice, but I doubt it was your 8 bids that made the bump in the road.

... but CONGRATS on the win, and WELCOME to the forum. Smile
Hey, the good news is that one of the 8 sites placed your bid 53 seconds early. And it wasnt us! Ha ha ha. That just goes to show all the complainers out there.

We did snipe, you can click the "Confirmation" button to indeed see we placed your snipe before the auction ended. The confirmation button next to your winning item shows that we successfully raised your maximum bid much higher than your winning bid. How many other sites do that for you? I know the answer... ZERO because we're the best. Thank you for using AuctionSniper.com
Hello Sara,

wath you say is partially right...

None of the 8 sites placed any bids for me 53 secs before the end of the auction...

Actually Auctionsniper.com was the only one (out of 8) to place a bid for me... in the bid history of the item I was figuring with just one bid... even if all my 8 bids were higher than the any body else's bids... other times I've tryed with 2 bids by two differen Auction Snipers... and the bidding history was showing that I placed two bids... the 2 highest bids...

So... do you really think that the other 7 Auction Snipers failled??? I'm trying to find out if by placing so many bids I jammed myself or I prevented other bidders from placing their bids... i won this article at a really good price... many people had seen it... and the seller had allready got many private offers...

Hello,

I'm aware of the big ammount of users on Ebay... but wath's the maximum number of bids that a really interesting item gets during the last secs??? The item on wich i experimented was the most seen of its category... and among the many views (more than 600)I knew that there were at least 10 bidders who were seriously interested in it ( I keep stats of the number of views per day on many items from the same category and do some comparissons with the end price... and I also follow some forums on wich collectors discuss about wath's on Auction...)

It's likely that your bids were not received and processed by eBay in the order you expected. It's also possible/likely some of your bids were not recieved in time.

Lets suppose you enter the following bids.

9 seconds $20
8 seconds $21
7 seconds $22
3 seconds $23
2 seconds $24

Now suppose the 7 second bid of $22 wins and is the only bid to show up in the bid history. This is how that could happen.

If the $22 bid was sent early, the 9 and 8 second bids would be rejected by eBay as 'To Low' and would not show up. (you can't bid again unless your max is higher) The 2 and 3 second bids (because of heavy traffic) might have been 'Not in time'. Those other interested bidders, if they really tried to bid, got a 'To Low' or 'Not in Time'.

eBay does get slow durring high traffic times, but one person working by themselves is not going to cause it.

I've seen as many as 3 bids placed and recorded in the bid history with the exact same time. What's the max? I'm sure eBay will keep that secret to themselves.
Hello Puppy Raiser,

here is wath i did...

3 secs 500
4 secs 490
5 secs 480
5 secs 480 (2 bids at 5secs)
6 secs 470
7 secs 460
8 secs 450
1 bid with the system choising for the lead time

How can it be that only the 3 secs bid placed through Auctionsiper.com was shown in the bid history?

This item was won at 330... pretty strange...

Well... next time I'll try with more snipes... i think that there must be a maximum number of bids on the same Item that can be processed by ebay during the last secs... and I don't think that it must be all that high...

Any thought... indication... and own experience about possible "EBAY JAMMING TECHS" will be appreciated...

Using Auction Snipers gives us a great advantage... my hunting ground is Ebay.de... and over there just the foreigners use Auction Snipers... think at how great would be my advantage if I could somehow stop the most dangerous last secs bids from being placed... well... ok... maybe this is just an EBAYER's DREAM... eheheh

Best Regards...

von_clausevitz,

You setup your snipes correctly to test this in theory. Having the highest bid placed last is what you want, otherwise if a lower bid comes in from the same user for a lower amount he is sent a responce saying "you are already the high bidder". The problem is that AS didn't do what you told it to, it placed your bid 53 seconds early, for the largest amount. This means that all your other bids were ignored by ebay. I would bet most would have made it in. If this doesn't make sense, let me know.

Hello,

I had a look to the "Bid History"... my bid has been placed 3sec from the end... and the Sniper who was supposed to place a bid at 3secs from the end was AS...

Hello Rob,

AS did exactly wath I wanted... they placed my highest bid 3 secs before the fall of the hammer...

I'll probably do another experiment this evening... and this time I'll also tell yo the Auction Number and all the Auction Sniper Sites involved.

Hey there! I am new to ebay and new to esnipes. I am confused about how the $ works...
How do I plan on a bid amount for the last few seconds of the auction? I am currently looking at 3 sewing machines--a serger, a regular machine, and an embroidery machine. All look like I could get a terrific deal, but If there are more sites like esnipes, I could easily be out bid. the increments currently are pretty small--like $3-$5. so, do I up my bid to the max I will pay, or do I take my chance with just a $10 increase?? what do you that have experience do? also, if I list a max $, is that the bid placed, or does esnipes just increase the previous increment? .....I'm so confused....... Confused thanks for your help!
