Firstly, R2: One of your “hates” is lack of AS staff visits to this forum. I think they do a better job of policing this forum than you give them credit for, but putting that aside, why report this, or any, post? If AS feels that someone else is monitoring the forum for them, aren’t they even less likely to make “visits”? Also, you have complained about AS not being receptive to your suggestions. If that’s true, then why would you think they would be receptive to this? I’m not suggesting you not do it, just pointing out possible inconsistencies.

Secondly, R2: Why on this thread, and on other threads, do you encourage other users to “report” it? Here are some possibilities – you pick the number that best fits, or feel free to add to the list:
  1. Sara is indecisive and needs email from several users to determine whether she should remove a post.
  2. Sara is lonely and loves to get email.
  3. You’re concerned that if it’s only you that’s always does this, she might think you’re a bit quirky.
  4. It makes you feel good, or powerful, or something.
  5. You’re hopeful it will irate Sara.
  6. You’re hopeful it will impress Sara.
  7. You’re an unnoticed hero.
  8. You were born too late to be part of Hitler’s Youth or the Inquisition.
Don’t you think one report/email is enough, unless Sara, or someone else has asked you to ask others? Maybe Sara encourages you – it’s possible. Maybe there’s not even an issue because no one else ever does “report this post” – it’s possible.

I wonder what would happen if someone reported R2’s “report this posting” post. Would be comical if R2’s post got reported more than the original post.

That’s a fair assessment, R2. But are you saying that posting to you is the equivalent of “little else”? Or, is it your experience that the only time anyone communicates with you is the result of the poor quality of the programs on TV at the time? The later may well explain your criticism of AS support – their day-time TV viewing is more stimulating than reading your support requests.

Should I also understand your response to mean that you’d rather discuss my TV viewing than explore the wisdom of your “report this posting” crusade?

I gather you agree with some or all of the items on my list – either that or you can’t come up with any coherent argument against them? Typically when either of those happen, you try to move the focus away from the criticism being directed at you. This time it’s my TV preferences.

Additional, regarding the above poll, R2. There’s only one vote – was that yours? Don’t you just love having the power of being the only one at the polls? At least everyone agrees with you – that’s got to be a first. Or, were you actually excited about the prospect that some/any one asked for your opinion? Calm down, R2 – they weren’t seeking out your specific council. It’s an anonymous poll, so your secret is safe. But, if they do discover your participation, they’re probably too bright to give it any weight – somewhat like AS support.

R2, here’s a golden opportunity for you! You know how you’re always making a ruckus that AS doesn’t “notice” you? Since they didn’t do anything about your above “report this post” post-report, here’s yet another item you can add to your “hates” list.

Can you do me a favor, R2? If you’re the least (itsy-bitsy) bit suspicious that you’re going to post something that you haven’t posted hundreds of times before (meaning you’re going to show more originality than a parrot), would you mind giving me a heads-up? I’m not sure I could handle the shock.

(Time to find another rabbit hole, R2?)
Shame really, so many people had remarked that you were an ideal couple!

That's the trouble these days, first small "tiff" and "off we go"

Come on now you two, it was only a survey!

I know it's annoying when they stop you in the street and say "Try new Bold it now contains Strontium 90 for whiter whites"
However I try and not to look them in the eye and stare fixedly into a point far, far ahead.

Surely this tactic would work here - just ignore all posts that start "This is a Poll"

OH, COME NOW, CAMERA! Isn’t there a part of you that’s enjoying this? Maybe just a little part and a little bit?

Before you answer that, Camera, consider the following: you’re the only one outside of R2 and me, getting involved in “this”, and with R2 pretending he has me on ignore-status, then theoretically it’s just you and ME!

It’s very possible/likely that other users, without the benefit/disadvantage of an Ignore List, are doing a substantially better job of ignoring these exchanges between R2 and myself than R2 is with his make-believe Ignore List.
The real problem with the original post is the lack of a fourth choice: "Who cares"

Hey, I and Sara B. both posted!

Actually, I am enjoying the spirited repartee.

numpty poster

Please Rick, do not get fixated on a Scottish term for the half-witted.

English is a glorious language and TV has helped us evolve a whole new generation of petty insults.

Roughly equivalent to "Numpty" is "Muppet" as in "You're a right Muppet!

Others to consider are:

Stronger than Numpty:
You are a Nutter!
What a Chav! (More to do with bad taste)
You're a divvy (comes from divot meaning Clod)
What an eejit (in a sort of Irish brogue)
Manky so & so (as in disgusting)

Level with Numpty
You are a prize Pillock!
What a Berk!
You're a Git!
Dozy so & so (quite mild really)
What a Plonker!
What a Wally!

There - a selection of very British terms to nearly insult your friends with

Pip Pip (30s term really)
