I was wondering why I was 'charged' for 2 different snipes, when my snipe bids were not the winning bids on 2 auctions? In each case, due to the recent problems with ebay sending false confirmations about auctions ending early when they haven't, I have placed bids on items I really wanted. My proxy bids were enough to win without the use of my backup snipes. Yet in both cases I was charged for the snipe when my proxy bid won the auction.

I didn't think the snipe counted if I was already the high bidder on ebay. Was I wrong??

You will not be charged for a double snipe.

But in the situation you describe, how is Auction Sniper to know that you were already the high bidder? It's job is to snipe. And it snipes well.

Others have also mentioned this before, and I have replied saying thats it may not be a safe idea to check eBay and verify if you are the high bidder before placing the bid. This could really slow things down.

If you email me at support@auctionsniper.com, I will remove the charges.

Hi star_trkr ,

You referenced "recent problems with ebay sending false confirmations about auctions ending early when they haven't." I experienced that situation before I discovered Auction Sniper. Since I've started using Auction Sniper, it hasn't happened once, and I've placed in excess of 30 snipes in the last three weeks.

This is not to say that Auction Sniper would prevent such a situation, I'm merely suggesting that the odds are probably low that you'd encounter it.

Obviously, to place a proxy bid on eBay AND set a snipe poses a bit of a conflict. Perhaps it would be better to decide to use one or the other. Either way presents its own set of variables. Personally, I have found my odds of winning to be significantly higher using Auction Sniper. Big Grin

Good luck to you!

Hi folks....Adam,Neva...you're both right !!! I read star's post and your replies....I had placed a proxy bid on ebay and later I placed a Snipe using A.S. At the time I figured I was protecting a win by doing this. Well, lo and behold no one else bid for the item on ebay...so I was high bidder on ebay and ready to snipe.. The auction was set to end after 10:00 and by reading these posts/replies it dawned on me Eek A.S. would snipe for me..so I cancelled my snipe and took my chances with ebay proxy bid..Moral of story....works out better to use A.S. ONLY..Read posts/replies on A.S and remember it's easier to change or cancel a snipe bid on A.S. then cancel a bid on eBay...Carol... Red Face
I appreciate the replys. But point in fact. I have lost 2 separate auctions because I relied solely on AS. I'm note blaming AS because the error seems to be from EBAY sending confirmation messages saying the auctions ended early by 'buy it now'. When in FACT THEY DID NOT! One of those auctions was last night. I did not place a bid on ebay. I was on line monitoring the auction and waiting for my snipe to hit. There was no 'buy it now' option on auction, it did not end early, and there were already other bids on the item. The action ended exactly when it was supposed to. My snipe was never place due to a message from ebay saying the auction ended early -- IT DID NOT -- via 'buy it now' -- IT DID NOT. This is not the first time this has happened. I have also noticed in other post that others have had this happen to them.
As I've already stated, and per Adam's previous investigation, this appears to be a problem with ebay and not AS. So if I REALLY want an item, I feel I must place a bid on EBAY because there's no garauntee ebay's going to allow my snipe thru. I email Adam about this before when I was having trouble signing onto the Chat room.
The auction that I was 'charged' for were: #1502567669 and #1061599312.
If you would like to see the auction that my snipe did not get thru to, it was #1064584260. Roll Eyes
Hi star_trkr Could be you have two "seperate" issues....and I've experienced both....1st issue..charged for the snipes-----auction #1502567669 you placed 4 sniper bids and auction #1061599312 you placed 2 sniper bids 14 min apart..Like Adam said,A.S. WILL snipe..!!! I db/sniped 2 auctions and got charged...Adam helped me as he will help you...Placing multible snipes on an auction seems to cause a problem...I don't place db snipes anymore.!!! 2nd issue...Snipe didn't go thru---Auction #1064584260..I sure hope eBay isn't playing dirty with us Snipers Eek and not letting our snipes go thru....My experience has been that I wasn't watching the bid increment...on your auction the necessary bid increment was $0.50..Only you and Adam can see your A.S. bid history,so if you hadn't placed a sniper bid $0.50 over jc2's winning bid of $6.99 A.S. wouldn't have been able to place a bid....so keep sniping and rely on Adam Smile Smile Carol...
granitz: thanks for noticing that there were really 2 different issues. I understand how I can snipe against myself now, and that's not a problem. Eek I'm really starting to wonder about eBay though. According to other postings they have taken steps to keep sellers from having a link to AS in their auctions. And I've had 2 different auctions where my snipe was reportedly refused by ebay due to the "auction ended early" bit. And in both cases I know for fact the auctions did not end early because I was on line monitoring them. (By the way, my snipes were MUCH higher than the minimum bid increment.)It really makes one wonder.

On items I REALLY REALLY want, I'd rather take the chance of sniping myself, and be charged for snipe I may not 'need' to win, than take the chance of ebay not allowing my snipe thru with a false message saying the auction already ended. I've lost 2 auction already that way I haven't been sniping all that long.

With all that said, let me point out to everyone, I have no problem with AS. I think AS is great. In fact, I've prepaid for over a 100 snipes and expect to use them happily! Smile
Hi star....That makes me very unhappy that eBay would pull a dirty trick just to keep someone from sniping.. Mad It's bad enough that they pull auctions that have the A.S. referral icon on the auction page.....now this... Frown There's nothing wrong with sniping...I even don't mind sniping against another sniper..adds excitement to the auction...I am pro-auction sniper too...How do you prepay for snipes???? Never heard of that....Carol....
Hi Granitz-
When I went to the link to upgrade my account, (https://secure.auctionsniper.com/?p=upgrade) there was an option to prepay using paypal if I didn't want to be billed monthly. I clicked on the paypal link. There are about 4 different options for prepaying for snipes. I decided to take advantage of the offer since I happen to be addicted to eBay! Wink It just one more reason to love AS. Well, it's getting late and I have to get some sleep. Happy sniping! Smile
