This morning I received email from "eBay Research" with the title "eBay Survey: your feedback is important". The survey was about 25 questions, and focused entirely on sniping! It asked questions such as:

  • Have you ever used sniping?
  • Do you feel sniping is fair?
  • Does sniping take away from the "fun" of eBay?
  • If you ever lost an auction to a sniper, how did that make you feel?
  • Would you use a sniping service if eBay offered one for free? For a fee?

At first I thought the survey would be getting my feelings about whether or not sniping should be allowed, but the latter half made it apparent that eBay is thinking of having their own sniping service.

I dunno about the validity of this email...hard to imagine eBay offering a sniping service. Especially since some people are against sniping, both buyers and sellers. And eBay always wants to earn a buck, thus the listing fees and that 10% of your winnings fee. So no doubt, they would charge for you to snipe with their service. It's just hard to imagine an auction site offering a sniping service...or maybe it's just me. Big Grin

That's very true, Mrs. M. I know I've gotten my fair share of phoney emails from "eBay" claiming this or that or wanting me to participate in a survey or something of that nature. Best to just delete these emails on the spot. They're other companies or individuals who are out there to take your information, most likely. Sort of like the fake "we lost your account info and need you to give us your credit card information" emails that get sent to me from someone saying they are AOL...right. -_-

It sounds legit. I have taken similar surveys before, but did not get picked for the sniping one..

It is handled by an outside source, but is eBay sponsered. It never asks for your ebay username or password, both of which a spoof site would ask for.

Honestly I think eBay should not even be thinking about offering this service, they are already opening more cans of worms than they can currently handle! (I wish they would take the if it ain't broke don't fix it approach to some things..)
