Crafty, she is kind of hedging a little but as long as she doesn't say it is to cover paypal(if she is US), I suppose she has not commited a TOS!

As long as she charges everyone the same fee, I think she's probably ok. Personally I don't mind paying reasonable fees, as long as they're reasonable. But I don't think she's allowed to charge a percentage of the sales price or anything like that, is she?

Thanks Mrs. M. I appreciate it. I've just never seen something like this. I've seen sellers state they if you want to pay using PayPal, then to include X amount for the fees.

Shirley - I don't think this lady is charging "reasonable" fees at all. She charges $4.99 for the 1st item and $2.50 for each additional item! But please understand that this is MY opinion. I'm having problems with her as it is. She keeps emailing me and telling me to get a life!

I wrote her once to ask her if she knew that the plate had a hole in it. So far I've gotten 4 letters from her telling me to get a life.

Yea, people like this erk me to no end. They could sell items for a penny, and STILL make money on the sale.

Don't seem right, but eBay will let them get away with it.

She can charge people different shipping fees depending on where they live, Shirley. Handling, which includes the cost of the box, etc. and time of wrapping and mailing...well, who is to say what is reasonable? The bottom line is that you need to know in advance what you are paying for these services and make an informed decision! No one is twisting your arm!

IMO, if you bought the plate with ins., put in a claim, if you bought it without, whether it was or was not offered, let the buyer beware! You shouldn't have ! It is breakable. You should have let it go and looked at another auction. Just my opinion as to what I think I would have done.

I always charge actual shipping on my auctiuons, if they buy multiples it is also actual shipping.I also put the shipping calculator on my auctions so bidders can figure what the shipping is to their location. I ship everything priority mail. I mean you can get the box's , tape, labels all for free, print out shipping labels with free delivery conf.

I fell if I am honest with the shipping, that people are more likley to bid on my auction , than on a same item auction with inflated shipping

I really hate people that try to make $$$ off shipping, I will not bid on their items.

Jet, I do the same, but you know that a seller can also hide "handling" charges in the calculating system , so that is not a measure on an auction site that you are paying fair charges. I don't mind if they charge a nominal fee because some things cannot be shipped in free packing and there is packing materal, etc. I just think a person needs to be resopnsible enough to do their homework before bidding.

Mrs. M - I never thought of that. To show how smart I am - when a seller puts in one of those "shipping calculators" I believed that that was the true shipping. 99% of the time, the shipping seems really reasonable to me. I also have to admit that I've used the calculator and the shipping has been - what I call high - and I've passed the item by. But I never thought about there being a way to pad the shipping price.

Yes, they allow you to enter an amount to cover handling. That amount can be ANY amount, and is just added to the actual shipping costs.

Shipping/Handling is the big item one needs to watch for ... it's amazing to me that many of the low ticket items have shipping/handling charges of $12 or more! I've been looking for a particular pcmcia etherenet adaptor ... many of them go for around $7.95, but then with $12 s/h ??? It'll cost them under $4 to ship - where did the extra $8 come from? They must be wrapping it in silk
