Yoshereeshay, you're taking a big gamble by planning to snipe an item that's been put up with the "Buy It Now" option. What that option offers is the opportunity to buy the item for a stated fixed amount on a first-come-first-served basis. When the item is purchased under "Buy It Now" the auction is closed and the item goes to the person who excercised the option. You might have had a much higher bid slated under Auction Sniper, but that bid was never placed and so didn't count.

If you want to snipe something that's on "Buy It Now" and you think you can snipe it successfully for less than the set price stated, put a minimum bid on it. That "kills" the "Buy It Now" option and you can go ahead with planning a snipe without worrying that someone will buy the item out from under you before the auction closes.

Steve is correct re: the buyitnow option on eBay..and the seller may not have placed the buyitnow option when he/she originally authorized that auction...A seller can add,delete,or change the auction (certain rules do apply)....Also,if I happen to look at an auction and it shows B.I.N. I will do one of two things....like Steve says..place a min. bid on eBay..then use AS or if I just can't stand to not have the item I'll pay the BIN price........

yohereeshay's issue isn't with a Buy-It-Now auction. Read the post again...

1. He/she said he set his AS snipe for a lot more than the current high bidder had.

2. He/she states it was not a Buy-It-Now auction to begin with.

3. Seller confirmed there was no Buy-It-Now winner.

I just took a look at our logs and your snipe confirmation. This is certainly interesting.

The snipe status message will read "Ended Early" because your snipe confirmation says that the item ended with "Buy It Now". Keep in mind that this confirmation came from eBay and not us. But the item page says nothing about buy it now.

Here is what the confirmation says:

Cannot proceed
This auction ended on Jan-13-02at 17:47:43 PSTby Buy It Now, and bidding is closed for this item.

I even went a step further to see if maybe your confirmation and someone elses got mixed up, but everything is in order. Seems like eBay may have fumbled the ball here. This auction did not end by Buy It Now, but they sure say it did.

It wasn't until I read your last post, Adam R., that I remembered two incidents previous to my discovering Auction Sniper.

In both cases, I was trying to snipe. On eBay only (no AS), I entered my bid amount on the item description page which took me to the Review and Confirm Your Bid page. I clicked on the Place Bid button and received the same message (with different date/time, of course).

Neither auction had a Buy-It-Now feature. The first one already had one other bidder. The second one had no bidders at all, and the item page showed it closed with no bidders at all!

Luckily, in the second case, the seller was quite amenable to selling me the article anyway.

So, I would venture to say it IS an eBay problem.

Yes, I would agree. While it is easy for me to blame the other guy, snipe confirmations show that eBay did tell us that the auction had ended with Buy It Now. Another user had actually emailed eBay and they claimed that Auction Sniper must not have sniped in time. But again, thats a lie because our records show that these snipes were placed exactly when they should have been. Who knows...it certainlly is a weird error and I'm 100% sure its not the fault of Auction Sniper.
