I used Auction Sniper to get 4 Tickets to the Pro Bowl in Hawaii. Got great seats too.

Anyway, I had my snipe set at 6 seconds and it actually went in at 8, this other guy had a snip (or something similar) set for 10 seconds. He would have lost anyway as my max was set at $125 above what the final price was and he only added $20. He sent me an email saying I must have cheated cause there is no way to get a bid in under the last 10 seconds. He recommended that I back out of the auction and renig my bid with the seller or he'd contact eBay.

I responded politely "Pack Sand"! I told him that I did nothing illegal and that his bid simply wasn't high enough to win the auction. I told him I did a proxy bid for $650 and his $516 wasn't enough to win.

Just thought I'd share with the group. Razz

Congrats Adrenalin,

E-Bay's policy with regards to sniping is practically non-existent. Any snipe is about as technically equal to a proxy bid... So your bid is basically legitimate. So whoever this sore loser is, they can "pack sand" as much as they want! It won't get them anywhere... You've got the tickets! Big Grin

I received a similar E-Mail from another sore loser who missed out on obtaining a Sony CLIE PDA, I beat them by 15 dollars within the last 4 seconds, a masterful play and my first snipe too! Cool

Enjoy Hawaii!

There have been several times that I have manually sniped an auction without the use of any software.
I even had one bid get submitted within one second of the auction's end time. That was a nail-biter. Furthermore, I happened to win that auction by one penny! SWEET! lol But the point is, I did submit a legitimate bid and won the auction -- snipe or no snipe. The auction doesn't end until the clock expires. Until then, any bid submitted in any fashion is perfectly legit.

For him to ask you to withdraw your bid is just plain comical -- not to mention illegal according to Ebay rules. Obviously, he is greatly disappointed that he didn't win -- I've been there, too. But, that's how I learned to snipe in the first place! LOL He is just taking it out on you, which is pretty low-class of him to do. Plus, I'm sure that the seller didn't him the time of day, either. I'm willing to bet that he, himself, will be sniping his next auction. lol

So, enjoy your win and enjoy the Pro Bowl. You earned it!!! Big Grin

Well, he did contact the seller, and she sent me an email letting me know, but she said, "I don't care how you win my auctions as long as you pay on time and we have a smooth transaction", "I looked up your history and everyone has compelementary information". "Maybe I should use software to win my auctions"

She gave me positive feedback in my folder so, nuff said.

Thanks for the support!
I had a woman write harrassing email when I bid against her, and SHE WON, sent me a nasty messge about snipers I had no idea at that time what she was talking about I sent the email to ebay and never heard anything

It was abusive, I find ebay really hard to get a response from when I need something, or something is not working Like looking for a needle in a haystack trying to find where to contact them Mad
With hundreds of millions of bids every day, it would not be surprising to learn that eBay gets tens of thousands of complaints every day. Since the role of eBay is that of an auction house, responding to run-of-the-mill complaints like "this jerk dissed me!" is likely to take a low priority in eBay's scheme of things. Accordingly, while eBay does indeed have a staff of people that looks into complaints, that staff is probably very small in numbers and highly overworked.

This is not to say that complaints should not be addressed. However, it's beyond praying for that most complaints will receive prompt attention. If you're careful in your wording of a complaint, you can probably catch the eye of someone on that overworked staff: words like "mail fraud" or "obscenities" probably gather attention before more mundane vocabulary does.
I would hve just tell them to sod off. I sniped so many times is not funny. There are always people sniping, If they don't like it they can pay more. Auctions: You cannot afford to be cheap when you know there are other people out there. I sold one time which the real bids only came in the last 10 seconds. O well, I get the better of sniping in both worlds, buying and selling. Smile
