I've been a vegetarian for a long time and don't know anything about cooking a ham. Maybe Mory could help. If you want a good recipe for pumpkin pie made from scratch I can give you one.

Is your ham cured? There are so many kind...fresh, honey cured, salt cured, sugar cured. If it is a honey or sugar cured ham, I don't boil it first. I score the top and stick it with lots of clove, bake at 350 F. for about 15 minutes per pound. The last twenty minutes I glaze it with brown sugar, 1/2 stick butter, and a tablespoon water that has been brought to a slow boil and turned into a syrup consistancy. Then place several pinapple rings on top and marchino cherries if you like. Bake for an additional twenty minutes.
