Today I set up a snipe for 40.01 on an item sitting at 29.99 with 1 bid.

At the end I won, I'd done my research and knew that 40.00 was the going rate so I added a penny to my snipe and got on with my life...

It turned out that the original bidder had put in a proxy bid of 40.00 - so I was the winner by just one penny - I bet s/he was p|ssed off!

Since there was only one other bidder, and the item had a “going rate” (sounds like it’s not one-of-a-kind), instead of pissing anyone off, there’s the possibility, or probably (can’t decide which as my psychic powers aren’t what they use to be), that the other bidder will purchase the item on another auction for a price closer to 29.99. If that happens, “winner” becomes more subjective.

Post the other bidder’s ID and I’ll let you know s/he’s success, or failure.
