Had been using a 4 second lead and noticed (on bids that were accepted by eBay)
that AS was usually leading with 40 seconds+,
since default was 5 seconds, I let that stand for this one. Frown

As you can see below, AS possibly lost this one for me by a "Not in Time" Bid.

item max # bids lead ended bidgroup status
5854164878 US $12.15 4 5 1/13/2006 9:19:15 PM BidGroup1 Not In Time
blue32701 ( 620) Last price:
US $11.10 Ship: US $9.95 Qty:1

Bid History

Winning bid: US $11.10

Ended: Jan-14-06 01:19:08 PST

Win bid Jan-14-06 00:37:30 PST This was placed over 40 minutes prior to the end (no idea if the proxy
may have been higher).

I know that I am *new* to AS, any idea where I went wrong?

Any way to know what time AS's Bid Attempt was placed?
Ok, just a guess here, but I read the below answer from another question/thread:

You have 25+ lost snipes in that folder. We have to check each before bidding to make sure you havent won one.

Delete that bid group, start a new one, and put your active ones from that bid group into the new one.

Could this have been the root of the problem?

(AS's Cleanup only offered to clean out older than two months, but I have successfully used the "cancel"
selected in "ended" and cut "ended" folder down to three to try and prevent another mishapSmile

Do I need to create another bid group??

Suppose I should have started a thread with my questions, but AS was 'on-time' this time and
I have won the item. (for an extra .55Smile )

Item number: 5854456032
quote:
Bid Amount Date of bid
US $12.15 Jan-14-06 17:38:36 PST
US $12.00 Jan-14-06 17:15:41 PST
US $11.05 Jan-14-06 12:08:09 PST
US $9.00 Jan-14-06 05:29:42 PST

From the bid history above; AS placed my winning bid exactly the requested 5 seconds ahead of end.

Now, how is it that the 12.00 bid placed 23 minutes before did not require 12.50 from me?

You must remember that the current winning bid of any auction is determined by not only the winning bidder's maximum bid, but more importantly the highest LOSING bidder's maximum bid. In this example, Mr.$12bidder's winning bid at the time your snipe bid hit was $11.55 -- 1 bid increment ($0.50) above the highest losing bidder's maximum bid ($11.05) at that point. The lowest valid bid when your snipe hit would've been $12.05 (1 bid increment above the $11.55). Since your snipe bid was for $12.15, not only was it a valid bid by $0.10, you also won the auction by LESS than a bid increment, which is always especially satisfying since you can imagine the other guy is pulling his hair out trying to figure out how you did that! Wink This is a perfect illustration why it is often recommended on this board to place an "odd" maximum bid i.e. $12.15 instead of $12.00! Wink Congrats on the win! Big Grin

So if I understand correctly, his actual bid had been 11.55 with a 12.00 'proxy max'.

My only regret in winning is I had so enjoyed watching AS doing the bidding for meSmile

This item, (Dell TM350 internal Bluetooth) was for a 'spare' (paypal burning a hole in my pocket!).
This seller puts up four a day on 24 hr listings and they were selling @ $10-$20 each and that average is more than Dell charges.
The very next one went with a $10.11 bid on top of a $10.00 losing bid at two seconds from end of auction.(smartersniper!) ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One year ago, had (EZ) sniped a serious bargain on a rare item and sold three items from atic for a lot more.
I had intended to use them again, for this snipe but AS was 'top of list' in my eBay favorites folder.
and I had manually done Ok on an IntelliMouse six months ago and now just have to find another eBay item I 'need' for AS to snipe.
