I've had a snipe set up on an item now for around 6 days, this is a rare book which has not been described correctly, I would love to add it to my collection, only one bid on it so far in single figures. The auction ends late tonight and I don't know if the snipe will work as AS seems to be unusable at the moment, nothing happens when I click the buttons. If this item goes cheaply and my snipe doesn't go in I will be beside myself!!
Do I stay up late and make a manual bid or is there any sign that things will be getting back to normal?

Who says a manual bid/snipe will be successful. There’s any number of things between you and ebay that can go wrong that will prevent you from bidding.

The last I heard, AS’ failure rate was 1 out of 1,000 (let’s be liberal, and say it’s 10,000). All well and good unless you happen to be that "1". On “must have” items, aka “I will be beside myself”, you might want a backup. Go ahead and have AS place a snipe. As a backup, stay up late and place a manual snipe, or use an alternative sniping service. I’d opt for staying up late, because I probably couldn’t sleep, and I’m proactive. If neither AS nor your backup work, then someone/something in the universe doesn’t want you to have it. I probably would have my backup leave a bid that was at least an increment different to insure that AS, or manual, or alternative service worked (AS and alternative will still bill you, regardless). Remember, your higher snipe would have to be after your lower snipe to be recorded by ebay.

I’d avoid a proxy bid because someone has already placed a bid, and like you, probably realizes its value, which means it could easily turn into a bidding war, even if it’s late at night.

If there was something I really wanted, and if *I* didn’t do everything I could to get it, then I would be mad at myself. You could even have multiple backup plans. It’s all a personal choice.

Of course, there’s the possibility the item won’t go cheaply. There’s the possibility there will be a flurry of snipes. There’s the possibility that the current proxy bid is very large.

Poor you, DMTS 1 - I've been delighted with AS up to now, but this is annoying - we don't even know when it's likely to be fixed...........and you'd think, since we can't snipe AS can't get any money, that SOME info would be forthcoming......

I think perhaps I chose the wrong time to join!

Still not working, by the way!

Doesn't mean there still isn't a problem. Has it been determined this is something that deals with location or country? I must have missed something - not a first, nor a last.

This is what I get for multitasking, Rick! I got two problems switched!! Well, anyway, whatever the problem, it is not with everyone! Wink
Well, I won my book! I made a manual bid on Ebay. AS emailed me to say I had won but I don't know whether they sniped it for me as well. I still can't do anything with the AS site, I have tried to set another snipe but the buttons still don't work. I wish they would give us some information. I will just bid direct from Ebay for now which is a shame because I have used AS for the last year and a half since I first registered with Ebay and everything I want seems to finish in the middle of the night or when I'm at work!!

It appears somewhat isolated, but still can understand any frustration if it were happening to me.
Yes, of course! I would be also. I was refering to the fact that although it is not UK, it seems to be isolated somehow and AS is not totally shut down.
I know for the past couple of weeks, Snip IT Now will only work for me if I delete the old copy and reenter it each time I go online and that in itself is a pain, but I still can snipe.
