Have you seen "auctions" where the minimum price is the same as the buy-it-now price? Am I the only one who thinks this takes all the fun out of auctions? Or am I just nit-picking?

I mentioned this annoyance to someone yesterday. She replied, "Well, you're always welcome to bid above the buy-it-now price!"

Seriously, though, is there some advantage behind treating eBay as an online store to sell your stuff, as opposed to alternatives?

I certainly can't see any advantage. I guess it's just convenient to list such items on eBay so long as it's allowed. And I suppose that so long as eBay gets its listing fees and percentage of the sale it doesn't care one way or another.

I love BIN's and ebay Stores. I know exactly what I'm going to pay, and I don't have to wait 7 to 10 days to close the transaction. I know the seller is happy, because they got the price they wanted. I'm happy, because I felt the price to be appropriate and I know I'll be getting the merchandise. Grant it - not like an auction for excitement, but my priority is acquisition over adrenaline rush.

Good topics you are posting, autophile. Wink

Since I am an eBayer to acquire and nothing else, I love BIN and eBay stores. Sometimes the seller takes items that are normally available through his eBay store and offers them at a lower starting price, and I may take advantage of that. (And some dopes end up bidding MORE for the widget that way, than had they purchased it through the store!) But normally I want the item because I want it, and am happy to have these other two avenues available to facilitate that. Big Grin
