Wondering when I should tell AS to snipe..the default is 5 seconds right?
Should I change that to something lower, like 2, 3 or even one?
Please help--this is my first snipe

Do a search in this forum and you'll find lots of people asking that question and lots of suggestions.
Me, I use 8 seconds. It's never not worked for me. Lowering it risks the snipe arriving too late so I wouldn't go below 5 unless you live life 'on the edge'!

I was advised when I first sniped to use 8 sec., except on busy times such as Sunday on the hour, 1/2, and 1/4 hour. At those times I add extra time for the traffic and snip at 15-20 sec.

I agree with the experts, umgirl.
I have followed that advice and have had great success.
The reasoning is twofold:
1) Its really the highest bid that wins, not the last.
2) It's not likely that a bid can be placed in response to yours less than 8 seconds before the close of an auction.

It got chilly here overnight (50 degrees F. when I arose) so I thought I'd stay under the covers for a bit longer. Cold weather makes my old bones creaky.

G'morning Mrs. M, bjt, Rick. I dunno about you, Rick, but I've had three cups of coffee. I like cool weather too -- it just takes me a bit longer to get started. 
I love cool, not cold weather. One thing I have learned about Florida humidity is that you can't take enough off to be cool, but up north, at least in the winter you can put on enough to stay warm!
