Why? Cookies serve a useful purpose so, unless you're paranoid you are wasting your time. Sounds like you're well protected (I use AVG, Ad-aware and Zone Alarm, all free!) so why bother.

Please read [_THIS_] and then make an informed decision... (for some reason this forum puts an underscore into the link so you'll need to delete that from the address to get it to work ie. http://www._c... becomes http://www.c...)

originally purchased an all in one security program which did not do the job properly so I sought advice from tech support service provider to determine what I need to protect puter...their suggestion, AVG, Ad-aware, Zone alarm, and Spybot. Anyway have downloaded all these and it is amazing what 1 misses the other will pick up...hope they have caught them all would hate to think I would need any more programs and spend a lot of my life running scans Eek

BTW as I am new to ad-aware do you just leave everything in quarantine or delete them as they are placed there?

Right on. But any messages that claim to be from ebay that I am not expecting get sent to spoof@ebay.com. I do the same for Pay Pals
spoof@paypal.com.
Also, whenever I leave a web site, I delete all cookes. Then I go to the next one.
That is in addition to my spyware and AVE. Big Grin

I only delete cookies that I do not require or do not know about. Some of the ones I have are needed.

How do you determine which ones you need?

In most cases, the filename will tell you.
For example, Mike@medmaw[1].txt I know is a Medmaw cookie that I need for clock materials.
Also, look at the dates. If in doubt, open the file in Notepad or similar.
A cookie can have anything the supplier wants to put in, but nearly always there is a URL there.
