I wonder, region2, if you should stop wondering and just provide Mary Ellen with the link to the support staff: http://support.auctionsniper.com/

Rick, thanks so much for your helpful suggestions! I'd already contacted AS last week...still have an 'open ticket' on it ...guess they are too busy with this new upgrade. Thanks for your concern!
ANOTHER sniping program is working GREAT for me! Big Grin
Have a great evening!

Add another early bid to the list. I've been using As for a couple of years now, but infrequently. A couple days ago it placed my bid 22 seconds before the auction ended, instead of the 4 second lead time I entered. Checking the bid history on the auction it showed the winner as having placed a bid manually 6 seconds prior to the close of auction. He had no other bids before then. Is the early bid placement problem happening more often recently? I know there are other sites similar to AS that are free also. I may try using some of them if this is becoming more of a problem.

- really? Manually? Does your version of ebay have an extra column for type of bid with the options:
manual | snipe | on the off chance | accidental | other
???
You can not tell that it was a manual bid and it was probably a snipe placed by an automated system that doesn't adjust the lead time in the hope of baffling newbies!

I was thinking the same thing. There is no way to know how a bid is placed; I suspect that even ebay has no way of knowing.
Does it really matter whether another snipe was manual or automated? No one, other than the sniper, knows. So, why distract the issue, or is that the intent? The issue is that the snipe was placed early. 22 seconds allows another sniper (even region2 as slow as he is) enough time to react. The fact that there is enough time for a retaliatory snipe opens up the speculation that it WAS a retaliatory snipe. And, that speculation is justified, and trying to discount that speculation with additional speculation, such as, “it was probably a snipe placed by an automated system”, is unproductive.

Let me try to give an analogy: Suppose an airplane crashed due to a mistake of the airlines and all aboard died. Now, lets further suppose that the airline justified this carnage by saying that everyone aboard would have died eventually. Hopefully, I didn’t aim too “high” on that one.

A ways back, AS decided that it was better to have a snipe placed too early than too late, thus they dropped 1 and 2 second snipes and added more padding to the lead-time padding, which was a good decision, overall. There use to be a LOT of posts about “snipe too late”, and since the added padding one rarely sees that. These days it’s “snipe too early”.

Now, AS is aware of this, and have posted on this forum that they are about to release an enhancement that will eliminate, or reduce, snipe-too-earlies. Life is good.

What will be really good is to no longer see someone posts, “it was probably a snipe placed by an automated system”, as if they’ve recently upgraded their tea leaves.

Isn't this thread long overdue for closure?

All righty now, Steve...we were getting along just fine until I just noticed you'd 'edited' my post where I'd mentioned another sniping community. Hmmmm...isn't a little competition good?

I was just reading the FAQ's on a different sniping website (in fact, one mentioned in one of the forums that you haven't caught & edited out yet!!! ---email me & I'll tell you which one!! Smile

Anyway, it states on there that:
Finally, we will show you how to get banned from the forums and potentially lose your (insert sniping program) account as a result of not following the rules:
1) Do Not Rant: No matter what, do not rant in the forums. If you would like to make a post in the Support forums explaining your issue, we encourage you to do so. However, littering the community with posts claiming that the sniping system doesn't work without first contacting customer support will result in an immediate ban - no questions asked!
2) Respect Other Members: Disrespecting other members or the (insert sniping program)staff will not be tolerated. Members are free to say what they please without the fear of language filters, but insulting another member will result in a suspension or ban - no exceptions!

My DH says I research everything to pieces...and I counter with, 'I like to make an informed decision'. That being said, I think we are very fortunate to have the venue of the AS Forums to state exactly what the problem is. Something that is not offered on these other websites, obviously!

Steve, I apologize for mentioning that other program. It was an existential moment of choice. I promise not to do it again! Razz

Do the problems seem to be worked out at AS yet?

Have a blessed week!

I had two snipes set up. The first one never bid, the second one is now gone from my account, like it never existed. I've used AS on and off for a few years now, but this is the first time it's disappointed me. I realize they are trying to re-engineer their sniping system, but lord knows they should put a big giant red banner on top of the site that says "WARNING: System is unstable, suggest using another service until we fix it."

I'd at least be willing to try AS again in the future that way. Now I'm looking for someone else. I sent in a support request, but really there isn't much they can do that will make me feel better. I know they are sorry, I know they feel bad, I know there were mistakes, but at this point in a company's business lifeline they should not be making these amateurish mistakes.
I'm a newbie checking out this service. I placed a snipe for 7 seconds and the bid came 14 seconds before the end of the auction. That is unacceptable. With the computer software I had previously used for two years, I never had an early bid... ever. I could understand it if the bid had been at 6 seconds or 5 or maybe even 3, but EARLY!!! What's up with that? You just sync the clock times. How hard can that be?

That's not acceptable. I don't want to hear excuses. Fix it. Fix it quick. I'll make a couple more safe snipes on items, but if it snipes even one second early, I'm gone. What's the point of having a snipe if it bids too early?
