IMO Not much difference at all between 1 and 10 seconds. Any bid that late is planed in advance and is probably going to get placed no matter what. It's still the high bid that wins, not the last.
If you figure in the bid increments, and the possibility of a bid being rejected for not being a full increment above current price, some might even argue that a snipe at 10 seconds is better than a snipe at one!
There are lots of manual snipers that will react to a bid placed, if they see it in time, so you don't want to bid to early, but don't be overly concerned about getting in at the very last second.
