anyone else fed up with sellers overcharging on the postage and packaging costs?
Recently i was all set to buy a gamecube game for £5.00. p&p costs £3.50!
it's an outrage.
what do you think?

I agree that it is a pain in the neck to find all the charges and calculate them all out, but people click the link to your auction based on the price on the search page so it is hard for a seller not to do it. I wish there was a way to fix it like put the shipping costs on the search too (of course sellers could then put it it the description only.

I have a flat rate that I charge on an item I sell and ship daily. I try to be fair about the shipping. Nothing turns me off any quicker than "loaded" shipping charges! The only answer is not to buy from them.

Alot of Aussie Sellers now display a banner that states that they dont make profit off shipping. Its the done thing over here, you charge ONLY the shipping and maybe the envelope/packaging material.
I ALWAYS state shipping/postage in my auctions and its only the cost that I get charged, we are lucky were we have pre-paid satchels that have weight limits, so I mainly use those and then the buyer knows exactly what they are paying for. On items that will ship cheaply, again I just charge the shipping plus the cost of the envelope.
I love the fact that AS and now My Ebay show these extra costs (as long as they are listed).

For the reason's stated above , I like buying from australia , I like that I don't get charged for the seller walking or driving to the PO and I don't get charged for the 20 cents worth of tape they used to stick the envelope shut. I would prefer to see $ 2.00 more on the starting prise than handleing charges.
Bullbar, I do understand where you are coming from, however I think you are lumping everyone into the same catagory...and that is not necessarily so! I have been overcharged in shipping maybe one or two times out of probably over a hundred purchases and I don't think I have ever charged anyone anymore than the true cost of shipping when I sell here in the US or when I ship overseas! There are more honest sellers out there than dishonest ones. BTW, we also have a shipping bag that is priority mail, one price, whatever you can put in it!
From my limited experience of over-chargers the worst offenders have been "commercial" type operations, especially in the US (no offence).
Worst case was US$75 charged, actual postage US$30.
I believe there is a tendency for such operators not simply to cover their costs but to see it as an additional source of income - icing on the cake, as it were.
The seller above never responded to my enquiries. Another "private" operator in the US refunded the excess when I raised the question with him. That's always worth trying.

One USA seller pointed out that shipping to the UK was cheaper than shipping to Florida.

Region, i know that I can ship to Canada cheaper than to California from Florida, but not the same shipping. It is air to Canada and priority mail here in the States
I have also noticed that many comercial venders charge way too much shipping and lower their price of the product, so, you need to do your math.

These days I buy about 50% from the US because I scour eBay for other people as well as myself.
I'm unfamiliar with the geography and the location of the various states, but it seems that while mail from Britain is a constant, that from the US might vary because of whether the sender is nearer to the East or West coasts. There is certainly a considerable time difference between some deliveries even though they're mostly air-mail.
I still give first prize for speed and efficiency to the Royal Mail and Australia Post.

And, GG, that would be normal to see a difference. We are a big country. When I mail priority in the US, it is anywhere I send it within 3 days and usually sooner. A lot varies when sent abroad because of customs.

I will back GG up on priding Royal Mail and Australia Post. Australia Post has let me down with 3 packages (which I was able to claim and get refunded at no cost) out of the 900+ I have posted. My packages are delivered within 3-4 days no matter where in Australia I send them (even Kickatinalong Outback Aus).
As Australia is same size as the US, I think that is pretty bloody good. Express Post (priority) arrives usually next day and in more remote areas 2 days.
When I get things from the States or the UK, usually if Customs decides to rummage through it, it is held up 2 days - which isnt so bad.
