Is it possible that AS would offer an option that if I am the winning bidder already, a snipe that is entered and has no effect on the winning bid price would not be charged as a successful snipe?

I often bid on an item, but put in a snipe as insurance if I really need to win. Then, a winning snipe doesn't actually raise the bid price because my bid was the only or last bid anyway.

Since I'm new to the discussion community, I won't be surprised to find this has already been raised, but maybe someone could refer me to that thread. Thanks.

I agree, it has just happenned to me yesterday. I bid for the item on ebay, then put in an AS for insurance incase i wasn't high enough and then got hit for $7 even though i was the only bidder (twice).
I agree it isn't a charity but why not charge a nominal 0.25% fee if their services are'nt needed. Yes region 2 you are correct about car insurance it isnt free but if you dont get a reasonable price you go elsewhere dont you ?

Sadly, it would appear that AS is not a charity. I think it is only reasonable that they should get paid if they place the snipe on the winning bid - after all, you are using AS as a form of insurance and I can assure you that my car insurance isn't free if I don't crash...

While I can agree with your analogy to a point, AS also doesn't guarentee the bid will be placed. At least when an accident occurs in most cases your covered.
