I am old veteran of the system and I have never missed a snipe with my 8 second lead. However, tonight I did (item 2557970313). Your error message says NOT IN TIME, their message says "Unknown Error" Other bids were placed on the item. I have not changed any passwords or User ID's and my User ID is not an Email Addresss. I figure it is because the end time is on a Sunday night at the Top of the Hour. BUT, I just want to make sure that Ebay is accepting my snipes. Can you check?

Same here. Although this was my first snipe, and I had a lower backup proxy bid on ebay just in case. I won the auction, but not via AS.

I did notice that throughout Sunday evening, AS was responding to web queries very slowly, while ebay seemed pretty responsive.

AS couldn't possibly be silly enough to place their web server on the same machine(s) as the bid submitting servers (could they?) so maybe their network connection was congested?

No. Bidding is done from 3 different servers.

In 3 different colocation facilities throughout California, i.e. 3 different physical locations for those 3 bidding servers. Thus that also pretty much rules out conjestion. While our site might be slow none of the bidding servers or facilities would be since they are dedicated only to bidding. We put a lot of thought into this when it was designed and I believe our technology outpaces everyone in this areana.

The usual reason for our site being slow is because eBay is slow. That is because of people logging into our site and clicking the buttons to update their snipes info on the My Snipes tab.

I was on last night from 7:30-8:30 and things were running ok. Last night was eBays busiest day in the past 6 months as far as I could tell, maybe even all year.

As usual most problems occured on the hour/quarter hour/half hour increments. 8 seconds simply wont work for those times for the rest of the year. Summer is slower but eBay is picking back up. I'd only recommend 30 second snipes at those times from 5pm-8:45pm nightly, and especially Sunday.

cut and pasted from a reply in another thread I just wrote a minute ago:

Basically eBay was extremely slow last night. We were often sniping 40 seconds in advance and they still werent being accepted in time. It's purely an eBay issue. Nothing to do with our site or the internet speed or such. About the only thing we could do is snipe even further in advance but that has it's own drawbacks. We try and present the best balance between lead times and snipes making it.

We have a page for free snipes in the event your is missed. It works both when it is and isnt our fault per se.
