Is this suspicious or am I just being paranoid?

Looking in the ID history the person has been a eBayer for sometime, yet just recently changed ID, unfortunately eBay does not allow checks on the old ID, or at least that is the impression I get.

I have "heard" of some sellers having more than 1 identity and dummy bidding to boost their returns from the auction. Wether or not it happens is only conjecture.....

Perhaps the only way to check on the person is to see if they actually ever get any feedback, cos if the id is used for dummy bidding only then they will always have zero f/b...

Its hard to say whether thats the case with this one or not.

There is no real way to check as the other bidder has no history - you could check and see what other kinds of things they have bid on in the past. See whether its just from this bidder or not.

Also you have to remember that new ebayers maybe just getting the hang of whats going on. I would be more suspicious if you had gotten into a bid war with somebody like that. I wouldnt think that a shill bidder would bid on their own item to up the price when there isnt anybody to bid against.

They didnt even know you were going to snipe - in this case I would say it was just a new bidder who thought they had won and you sniped from under them.

They have bid on 3 different auctions with different sellers and WON one. I am convinced they are legit

the bidder has a previous ID okapi_1, dating back to Jan 21 2002, only changed to new ID dec 28 2003.

How were you able to check the addy and see what they had bid on??? I am a bit of a sleuth at times and like to know these things.

I'd say (from my own experience) that the reason that he/she did a double bid is that he/she decided to "cover" in case of another bidder bidding higher than the minimum at the last minute.. I used to do this when I first started - total newbie

I think you are paranoid and ended up paying more for something then you wanted to. There are alot of stupid people on eBay that run the cost of items up far beyond thier worth. Happens all the time. Thats why you shouldnt be placing snipes for more than you want to pay for the item.

Boy, now that's what I call a failed assumption! Actually, the price I paid is half the item's worth if you check other auctions of the same item in the last month and I'm very, very pleased with the price. It is a freebie in most perfume counters/stores....if you buy $60 worth of perfume. However, on eBay it's been selling for about $30 and I just paid $17.49 including shipping charges.

I just didn't understand the same person with no feedback bidding and then upping her bid. I don't think I've ever seen anyone with no feedback before, except me during my first two weeks. I suppose we all have to start that way, just seemed strange to me at the time.

I suggest you get some rest, you sound a tad cranky.

Linda, that poster whom you just addressed is not known for his tact or pleasant demeanor.

I, too, thought the statement was a nonsequitur, in that--in addition to being rude--it assumed that you paid too much. You stated right up front that you bid what you thought was a reasonable price. Beside that, only YOU can determine what YOU are willing to pay.
