The next version of eve, 1.2.7, is nearly ready to be deployed to all sites. This update has some major changes/improvements to the way eve handles searches. Because of this, the upgrade process involves some fairly major data conversion and reindexing.

When we perform the upgrade, the conversion process may result in some slowness for your site. We will be performing the upgrades *overnight*, when most sites have very little traffic, but we just want to make sure you are aware that some slowness may occur while the upgrade is in progress.

After the upgrade is complete, we will then have to reindex your site, and while the re-indexing is happening, all search features will be completely unavailable. Search may be unavailable for up to 12-24 hours, depending on how long it takes to reindex the sites on a given server.

We will be setting a schedule for this upgrade beginning next week and you will receive an email from us once your particular server is scheduled.

“eve” is this forum’s software and Infopop is the company that provides the servers and maintains Eve.
“you will receive an email” – the “you” means the forum’s administrator(s).

We have made some significant changes to the way that search works in the upcoming 1.2.7 release to make it more robust and accurate. Once 1.2.7 is deployed to your site, you should see significant improvements in the accuracy of search results. We don't have an official release date for 1.2.7 yet, but it should be sometime in the next week or two.
From Infopop’s CEO (yes, high level management often posts on Infopop’s forum and even on Sunday mornings – very impressive!):

1.2.7 will be deployed to all servers this coming week

I’ll let you know what day as soon as I find out. Again, if there is any impact it will ONLY be for this forum, and will NOT affect (is that the right word?) ANY of the services/pages supported by AS. All the tabs at the top of this page, other then [Forum], will NOT be involved, assuming any involvement is noticeable on this forum.

BTW – Infopop pops out releases fairly frequently and the large percentage of them happens without anyone knowing they happened. This forum is currently on version “Eve 1.2.6 build 0” while Infopop is on “Eve 1.2.7 build 20”.
“Eve 1.2.7 build 20” was installed. Using the search function results in “Search is currently unavailable”. As mentioned in first post, “Search may be unavailable for up to 12-24 hours, depending on how long it takes to reindex the sites on a given server.” This search function applies only to this forum.
This is seriously bad news for infopop sales staff in the UK!

One of the main problems with a worldwide market place is that some words are acceptable in one part, but not another.

I gather there are certain English phrases I mustn't use over in the States!

In this case "Groupee" is pronounced "Groupie" and is not the sort of "group" most respectable people would want to join!

Topic: Announce Once Widget Code (Eve Customization Ideas)

Sometimes you want your Community to see an announcement as soon as they login.

One way to do this is by setting a "Terms of Service" date in the control panel. Everyone must agree to it before proceeding.

A different way is to use the code provided here (see attachment)

An announcement will appear. When the user clicks a button to say "I have read it" it will not appear again.

Then there was a section titled “Instructions”, “Advanced” and a link to download some code. Very impressive (it doesn’t take much to impress me), and definitely an eye grabber (maybe too much). One idea is to use it on those rare occasions something is wrong that prevents sniping, such as the last power outage ebay had.

You might be getting Groupee mixed up with Gropee (as in the passive recipient of a Groper’s digital dexterity). Brits seem to love adding “u” after an “o”. That’s why Yanks say “Yo!” instead of “You!”.

Ouh! Didn't knouw that!
Did you know that Bristol was originally 'Bristow'? Bristolians add 'L's to the end of words - cf ideal, aerial for idea and area.
My mental picture was of some sort of Group involving a Pee Wink It could become a new collective noun!
This should be good news for someone:

From Groupee (they maintain this forum):

I just deployed the 1.2.16 code here which means that you can see how the ignore user feature works.

The ignore option appears in the your personal zone and you can ignore users by clicking on their names in the forums (in the user div).

Cheers,

No news from Groupee as to the availability of Version 1.2.16, but seeing that a couple of you are anxious for this, I’ll keep you updated.

OMIGOSH!! IT'S LEXIE!!! Eek Big Grin

So what brings you here to the barren desert aka AS bulletin board? Seems practically everybody has been burned out on the board. Latest flamefest came from one "newbie", Eunice-something that majorly went after R2. That may have been the last straw for a lot of the holdouts. I don't check in near as often as I once did, and obviously neither do you! Wink
