Hi all,

Although AS made me discover some time ago the pleasure to snipe and win, I finally gave up and decided I should move to another service provider.

Reasons are mainly the numerous problems encountered with the sniping lead time, and the answers I got from AS support. Not only did I have to pay for a 'snipe' placed about one hour before auction ends, I also noticed variable lead time depending on the hour - like you all actually. The usual answer from AS is eBay slowness, but hey, as far as the other bidding softwares are concerned, how do they perform ?...

So I made a quick google search with "snipe ebay" and got dozen of answers ! Including comparisons etc... I finally found out that I could get a better service, way cheaper :-) Eg. illimited for $5/month, or as low as 16cts per snipe, etc... And even a free tool under Linux, yes free ! The drawback is that you need to have a Linux machine connected on the internet on a full time basis, of course...

I have a very few dollars remaining here, that I will consume from time to time, for eBay items for which the final price will not exceed $25. All the other snipes will be placed using another web-based sniping software, and you know what ? Even on Sundays evenings, even on the hour, for a requested lead time of 10 secs, this site performs with less than 1 seconde of difference, that is 11 secs for 10 secs... Not too bad Wink And my conclusion is that these problems with lead time are on AS' side rather than eBay's...

Feel free to comment on this post, but don't forget that most if not all of the sniping softwares can be tested free of charge, so you might want to make your own opinion as well. Cool

Best to you, and happy sniping,
AG

I still use AS...

"Not only did I have to pay for a 'snipe' placed about one hour before auction ends" - you're complaining 'cos you won? Confused

Free software running on your own linux machine permanently connected to the net. Not really free then is it? Some skill is needed to run and manage such a resort. If you don't undertsand this Unix command then forget it:
ls -ail

I'm not 100% convinced by AS's claims of 'slowness' when you often see other snipes arriving on time. However, as long as my snipe arrives in the last minute then I'm happy that AS and I have done our best, the rest us up to luck. I have never, ever had a snipe not placed!

For me it's the devil you know but I do read input like yours with an open mind and, occasionally, I try other products to compare. As is still the best for me...

I'm complaining because I had to pay for something I could have done manually. Placing a bid over one hour before the end is not sniping. And yes, I won. And yes, that was on a Friday.

__ls -ail__

alias 'll=ls -al'
And then life is much faster Wink

Sorry if that wasn't clear with my previous post, but I don't use this Linux tool, though, and you're right in that it isn't really free at the end. I have chosen another web-based software, where one snipe costs me 16cts, regardless of the final price of the auction.

Thank you for your comments R2, I'm posting this with the hope it will push things forward, and not to initiate fierce debates... I'm glad I can read open-minded comments like yours ! This is exactly what I have been happy to find in these forums for more than two years now...
