yesterday i signed up for the 3 free snipes with AS. everything showed "ready". this morning i have an email from AS on the first item i wanted sniped, and it didn't even bid for me. my high bid was a lot higher than the winning bid. when i placed my max. bid with AS, i didn't pay attention to the bid increments; does that matter? also, i did NOT bid on ebay b/c i thought AS was supposed to do that for me just before the auction ends so that i'm not starting a bidding war, contributing to a bidding war, or bidding against myself. i'm so confused. the status email i got from AS this morning on the item i wanted sniped last night has no status on it, and no link to this website. when i checked the status of the item on AS, it said "unknown". what the heck does that mean? i know what the status is - i lost the auction for reasons i don't understand. is this system complicated or am i dense? longing to know ...... pattie

Pattie,

It sounds like it was your first official Auction Sniper snipe. What a bummer... Frown

I personally don't know what happened, but when Adam R. visits the forums (or one of the well-heeled snipers who breeze in and out of here from time to time) you'll get an answer.

In the meantime, I can tell you I've had many successful snipes using Auction Sniper. Most often, I do not place any bid whatsoever on eBay, but set my snipe here instead for some of the reasons you mentioned. Again, I've had wonderful success in doing so.

I wish your first experience(s) using Auction Sniper had been better. Many of us here have found it to be an indispensable tool. I'm sure Adam R. can assist in figuring out what happened earlier today.

Does this help a little?

Hi Pattie....I think Steve's reply is correct Eek If you go to that particular auction page, and the seller did withdraw/close the auction...it will say that..usually around/under the title...It's happened to me.. Frown Sellers do have that option on eBay..perhaps because they aren't seeing any bids or are afraid they won't get enough $$$ for the item...anyhow,keep using AS and read all the posts. The posts can be very helpful... Hi

If i can have the item # or snipe ID, i can tell you what went wrong. I have fixed the 'rebidding' so that if eBay throws us an error, we will continue to bid for you until it is succesful. I have a feeling that you snipe may have been ended early by the seller.

Hi Pattie & Adam....I lost an auction today..and after looking Roll Eyes I think this is what happened.......About 1/2 hr before the close of the auction, someone bid 13.00...I had put in a snipe earlier for 13.49....the bid increment was .50 and because the other bidder had went .01 over the previous increment bid of ex: 10.49..Didn't make a bid using exactly the bid increment amount, then my sniper bid was NO GOOD !!The bid increment was still in effect at the time AS would have placed my bid....but because the latest(and the winning bid) was 13.00 and mine was 13.49,AS couldn't bid for me...Lesson learned Mad don't always bid by exactly the bid increment amt.....Carol.....
