<rant>Auction Sniper failed me again today, AND IT IS REALLY FRUSTRATING to see an item go at way below your max bid price. How many other people suffer this, and how do you feel about it?</rant>

So, what happened? Was your password changed on ebay and not on AS? Were you re-using a bid group that had already fired? Were you on the bidder's barred list?

Life's a two way street - instead of just sounding off why not detail what happened with the auction number - you never know - maybe it was outside AS's control!

R2 [ps. AS has never let me down and I've used it for years!
No, I was not a barred bidder -- I have 375 ebay feedbacks, 100% positive. Here's what happened -- I was sniping two items with the same closing time, from the same seller, using bid groups. Auction Sniper logged me in fine for one of them, but the bid was too low. At the same moment, Auction Sniper FAILED TO PLACE MY BID for the other, which sold for half the price, way below my max AS bid.
I the got an email from Auction Sniper saying "Status Summary: Unable to Sign In
Your snipe did not win because of the reason above

Suggestion: You might want to consider using Auction Sniper Bid Groups. With Bid Groups, you can bid on the same item from multiple sellers -- your bids will automatically be placed on each successive auction until you win one. This can help you avoid the disappointment of losing on an item you really want!"
I *WAS* USING BID GROUPS, SO THAT WAS REALLY JUST ADDING INSULT TO FAILURE.

Hmm - so how was AS going to check whether you'd won one item before bidding (or not) on the second one when they finished at exactly the same time? D'oh! Wink

Top Tip - read the FAQs before launching in here with a rant!

Even I am not going to expect Auction Sniper to cancel in zero seconds. It was a new bid group set to a max of TWO WINS, with seven items in the group, all finishing at separate times apart from these two, which were the first two, so there was no conflict, as it was guaranteed to have ZERO WINS at the time the two bids should have been placed.

Surely it doesn’t take a lot of programming nous check ‘number of wins required’ and place <= that number of bids? I kind of expected Auction Sniper to have at least that basic level of competence.

So, have the other items in the bid group also finished?
1st item - too low
2nd item - too soon
3rd item - ?
4th item - ?
5th item - ?
6th item - ?
7th item - ?
What error messages did you get on the other 5? Seems we're having to tease the full story out of you which is a pain - please tell us everything in one go...

Your misfortune is definitely worth noting. I agree, checking the number of wins, then scheduling more than one snipe in the bid group if necessary WOULD be a nice feature in AS, but your experience indicates AS does NOT have that level of sophistication programmed in the bid group feature! Apparently, the way the bid groups feature works:

1) If number of wins > or = number of desired wins in bid group, then CANCEL remaining pending snipes in bid group and STOP
2) If number of wins less than number of desired wins in bid group, schedule next ONE snipe in bid group.
3) Fire snipe
4) Determine outcome of snipe (win/loss)
5) Goto #1

Apparently, the bid group feature evaluates/schedules snipes 1-at-a-time, regardless of number of desired wins vs. wins. Perhaps the way to circumvent this deficiency in the bid group feature is to schedule one of the simultaneous ending auctions OUTSIDE the bid group. This unfortunately bypasses the nice feature of the bidgroup - limiting wins to a desired number. Another possible solution would be to have 2 separate bidgroups for the same type item (#bidgroups = #desired wins?), but this has disadvantages too.
Thank you for your view, region2. I'd hate to think you are employed by an AS competitor to put off AS customers, but your comment reads a bit like that. Blame the customer. Well, why not, if it makes you feel better.

I've used auction sniper to buy over a hundred ebay items, and its rate of failing (not placing a bid that was higher than the winning bid) has recently increased. This is sad, as I would like to be able to rely on Auction Sniper.
The "unable to sign in" looks more like a "Not in time" judging by our "View Confirmation" button for that auction.

I noticed it ended on a quarter hour at a peak time time for UK. UK peaks are now as busy as US Peaks from 6-8pm. Uk goes 11am-1pm. These are eBay California time. Essentially though 6-8pm now in either country is very busy.

eBay US has seen slow to little growth in the past 2-3 years and foreign eBay growth being a few years behind the US is just now catching up. This is giving us essentially 2 peak periods per day rather than just the US peak.

Your username was also not acceptable. I've gone ahead and changed it. You may change it again but if it resembles the last one I'll just ban you from the community rather than having to deal with changing it again.
