I'm so sorry, MG, but I just don't have anyto spare!1 We have missedall the storms hee and only gotten showers from them. Gosh, I really feel bad about that too! Your highly educated neighbor sounds like he would like some hog manure spread on the shubs near his lot line!

Considering that you have all the dead trees and bushes, maybe the trophy belongs somewhere else?

There must be some law your neighbors are violating? If the Stockton authorities won’t get involved, the EPA might? The Surgeon General might be interested in the dangers of second-hand smoke? Also, the Forestry Department might be motivated in this to prevent fires? There’s always the Agricultural Department’s concern about soil erosion? Are there any snail darters around? Maybe wetlands protection could be an issue? Could it be contributing to a Greenhouse Effect?

Here’s an idea – have your neighbors (is there more than one neighbor?) send their daily yard waste to your yard and you burn it (on the other side of your house)?

One more idea/theory – your neighbor(s) is really a front for the DEA? The stinking smell is really the burning of illegal drugs? Hell, I’ll be visiting you shortly to personally take charge of this smelling – I mean investigation.

MG, gosh, hard to imagine 30 degrees! It is still in the 80s here in the day and 60s at night!
Speaking of the bad weather, I heard from two of my Florida friends today. One lost his house roof not once, but twice!! The other had a lot of trees down.

I just realize something – this appears to be a seasonal issue that comes up every 6 months. Looks like Spring and Fall are the stinky periods.

Mrs.M, How do you afford loosing your roof twice? That's just terrible. It looks like a terrorist attack down there. The insurance companies will proly cancel the policies of alot of them too. They have such stupid rules. Pay us, but if you use your insurance we will drop you. sheesh!

MG, you are right. It is terribly hard on a lot of folks there. The deductible is $3000.00 for hurricane damage!! My friend that lost his roof twice can well afford it, luckily. He owns 30 some properties across Florida, but none the less, many could not. A tree fell on another friend's son while he was cleaning up and it took 50 some stiches to sew up his injury. He also broke some ribs. I think they are going to try to sell and move back to Tennessee.

BTW, MG, how are you doing on your degree?

Wellllll.....I scored a 110% on my final exam. (bonus question gave extra points)But I'm not a certified master gardener until I do 60 volunteer hours. I hope I can do it this winter because I had no time to spare this summer. Well, I did help plant a garden at a local nursing home, and answered questions at the farmers market for about 45 hours. But they aren't very organized about keeping track of it so I'll have to bug them to see where I stand.

MG, I'll let you come and rake leaves later this month... that should be good for a couple hours. Who do I report it to?

I will probably pick your brain about lawn fungus. I no more get it licked and then it's back. Sometimes I'm tempted to let the weeds take over. Do you have fine blade grasses like Kentucky Blue or Rye in your area or is it to cold.

That imported Kentucky Blue does fine in Michigan.

Yep it has. You need to get a blower Puppy, if you don't already have one. Makes cleaning up leaves almost fun.
A man from Guide Dogs in San Rafael is going to tell of his escape from the 78th floor of the North Tower of the WTC later this month at the vision impaired support group I belong to. Maybe he has one of your dogs????

Possible, but not likely. The school here in Michigan is the largest, but certainly not the only one. Both California and New York have several schools each. Those would be much more local and easier for him to attend. To my knowledge I only have 2 guide dogs working. One for a lawyer in Illinois, and another with a young lady in Mexico City.

Puppy, I saw a woman the other day training a guide dog. I thought of you.

collie/shelty type dog. Larger breeds are
usually the ones to be trained to be assist
dogs. How often are the smaller breeds given
the assist training?

Never, that I know of.

Small breeds are used as hearing dogs for the deaf/hard of
hearing, but the assist dogs must be big enough to pull a
wheelchair up an incline, paw a light switch, etc...
Minimum size for the group I work with is 21" at the shoulder.

Working dogs usually wear some type of pack, and always
wear at least a cape of some kind while in public.

I just raise them... Once they return for formal training the
professionals decide what job they would be best at. I've never
raised a small breed, but the larger breeds could still be
hearing or seizure dogs.

I've raised 2 dogs that washed out of the Paws program, but
were picked up by US Customs.
(Too hyper for a disabled person, but Customs loves that)

LOL! So Puppy, what you're saying is the dog I saw in the store in
the lap of that guy was really just a pet being passed off as an assist
animal so it would be allowed in the store! No matter, it really
was a well behaved dog, and I believe it remained in the guy's
lap the entire time he was in the store. Cute dog, too -- looked
like a "mini Lassie".
