Don't know if this will help, but it's a start.

At the top of the page, click on "search". In "Search Words" enter "microsoft + 197 + source" (without the quotes), or any other combinations of words to cut down or increase the number of hits.

Most likely you'll need to file a support case: http://support.auctionsniper.com/

P.S. - When you get your list after searching, click on the text in the "Subject" column.

This is apparently a problem in the Microsoft server software at AuctionSniper.com. No such file exists in a standard Windows OS that I can find.

I have tried several different browsers, IE 6, Netscape 4.76, Netscape 6.2, Opera 6.0, Opera 7.0 and the same error returns consistently for all pages except the forum.

hmmmm...Has AuctionSniper been hacked, or is this just typical Microsoft FUBAR?

This is really annoying because I wanted to cancel a fairly high priced snipe! Mad

What would lead you to believe that AS had been hacked??? All you got was a simple Microsoft error and this leads you to suspect cyber-espionage? Confused

This error, while infrequent, has popped up at times before. Each time it was rectified within a matter of hours. You will probably find that if you reload the page several times, you should be able to access your snipe.

Just curious: What made you decide to cancel your pricey snipe?
It's happening to me now when I tried to update items info on my snipes. Got the following:

Description: An error occurred during the processing of a configuration file required to service this request. Please review the specific error details below and modify your configuration file appropriately.

The Auctiva API file is used by AS, and something was unable to load it. Looks like an AS problem. Frown
I just got to work, where I have a T3 connection, but am restricted to IE 5, and must pass a firewall. The same error is coming up. What amazes me is that some of you are apparently getting the AS page to load. Thanks to all of you for the feedback, since as long as someone is getting it to load, I will keep trying.

I filed a report to AS support from home. I guess this will be my test of how fast they respond. I really love AS and don't want to give up this tool since I buy on an almost-daily basis. It's Murphy's Law in action today.

TonyT
Yes, that was fast enough. It did take 4 hours, but my real worry was that it would take till Monday. My fears were not that my snipes would not be placed, but that they WOULD BE! Meanwhile, I got lucky and was outbid (yes, sometimes losing is the best result).

Just in case this happens again, is there any way I can control which AS server I am connecting to? Is there a variation in the URL? Is my connection related to where (geographically) I am connecting from? For example my main server here at work is in the Netherlands, but my home connection is routed from Texas by SBC.

All is in working order now. Thanks everyone!

TonyT
Tony,

AS is very reliable, but like anything, it can have a problem. AS' staff are very good about letting everyone know by posting to this forum.

Also, if one person is having a problem, you'll see at least one post, and probably more, on this forum.

If you ever get in a tight spot, and become concerned about canceling your snipes, you can take extreme precaution of changing your password on ebay. AS won't be able to snipe with an invalid password.

Like I say, this is only if an emergency happens. It's not likely you'll find this tip on AS' faq. Wink

Also, when you do cancel a snipe, you must do it 2 minutes before the end of the auction. After that, the snipe is queued.

Tony, I am glad that the problem was fixed rapidly, as I had predicted it would be. It concerns me that you say that you have been using AS successfully for "some time," but you seemed willing to ditch it very quickly, based on a preoblem of a few hours' duration. Ditto for SniperFan.

Maybe it's just me, but even if the server problem had continued consistently all weekend, I would not quickly ditch any service that has proven itself so successful for me in the past.
Call it customer loyalty, but this goes for any business interest with whom I have had a long and/or successful relationship. Smile
Thanks Rick, that is an excellent tactic that I will add to my bag of tricks. In my panic I didn't think of it.

Sorry Chatterbox163 if you don't like my attitude, but I had several thousand $$ at risk this morning. I learned a lesson and will be much more cautious with my use of AS in the future. You know the meaning of assume, right?

I appreciate all the input and AS's quick response to my support request.

Tony,

I've never been in your situation, but with that amount of money, my reaction may have been the same as yours. I haven't been where you were, so I can't predict what I would do.

Timing is everything, and on this one, timing doesn't seem to be smiling on you.

If I had fully read your 7:25 AM post, I would have given you the password tip earlier.

TRYING to understand what I would have felt if I had gone thru what you went thru; I can understand your concern. I have never had that amount of snipes pending and also experience your problem with AS.

Not that this means 2 hoots ---

P.S. "Sorry Chatterbox163 if you don't like my attitude"? Once you get to know "Chatter163", you'll understand that's not what Chatter was saying.

I have no idea what you are talking about. Where was there an assumption made? I simply asked why you said you were ready to drop AS, when you stated that you had used them succesfully for some time. Though you did not say how long you have been with AS, you did state that you had been happy with their service up until now. For that reason it seemed odd that a single weekend, let alone just a few hours, would cause you to abandon AS.

I have been using my mechanic, dry cleaner, dentist, handyman and landscaper all for some time. If any one of them had a bad week, I would not abandon them solely on the basis of that. Therefore I was curious why a few had hours would cause you to do the same with AS. Confused
Tony,

"""Once you get to know "Chatter163", you'll understand that's not what Chatter was saying""" - I posted that, and that was a mistake. It doesn't require anyone to "understand" Chatter. It only requires one to look at his post.

"if you don't like my attitude"? I don't see where Chatter was making a statement about your attitude.
