I had tacked a question on to an existing thread yesterday [ Why is my AU 7 seconds behind EBAY?..]
and then realized that I should have created a thread on the subject. Eek

Jabbergah had provided an excellent answer to my last question but;

Now, how is it that the 12.00 bid placed 23 minutes before did not require 12.50 from me?

You must remember that the current winning bid of any auction is determined by not only the winning bidder's maximum bid, but more importantly the highest LOSING bidder's maximum bid. In this example, Mr.$12bidder's winning bid at the time your snipe bid hit was $11.55 -- 1 bid increment ($0.50) above the highest losing bidder's maximum bid ($11.05) at that point. The lowest valid bid when your snipe hit would've been $12.05 (1 bid increment above the $11.55). Since your snipe bid was for $12.15, not only was it a valid bid by $0.10, you also won the auction by LESS than a bid increment, which is always especially satisfying since you can imagine the other guy is pulling his hair out trying to figure out how you did that! Wink This is a perfect illustration why it is often recommended on this board to place an "odd" maximum bid i.e. $12.15 instead of $12.00! Wink Congrats on the win! Big Grin

Now I have a much more important question:

I had just ass-u-med that AS would snipe for me at the LOWER of the ‘Next Increment’ OR ‘My Maximum’
Careful reading of the AS FAQ’s and Help files did not address this and I thought it was a ‘given’

For the above case (I am not quibbling over a dime), but I see that the ‘next increment’ would have
been $12.05 but AS bid my snipe at $12.15 which was my “MAXIMUM”. Roll Eyes

My question now is; had my max been $20.15 (like ‘just had-to-have’ a rare item) would AS then have
put my snipe in at my maximum and ‘cost me’ another eight bucks? Frown

Somehow I had just assumed that Auction Sniper would place my snipe at the next eBay increment
and if eBay were to respond that “you must bid at least $XX.xx” and $XX.xx was below my MAXIMUM
that AS would then bid $XX.xx on my behalf. Cool

Sniper Goddess

You have 25+ lost snipes in that folder. We have to check each before bidding to make sure you havent won one.

Delete that bid group, start a new one, and put your active ones from that bid group into the new one.

Had wondered if this may have been the cause of a previous snipe (5 second lead) being too late.
(Thanks for the credits Smile )

Had looked at “As Cleanup, but it only offered “older than two months”, should we watch the number of “ended” snipes stored in the same “Bid-Group” Folder?

Finally just a comment for any seller ‘offended-by-a-sniper’, watching AS place my many “Too Low” bids would always
seem to increase the sale price of that item (to the winning bidder) by one increment above my bid. Is this a correct assumption? Big Grin

Hi Pilot,

AS will place only one snipe/bid, and that’s for the full amount you specify. Ebay’s proxy and increment system determines what the final price will be. In the example auction you provided, since you won by less than an increment ($.50 for that price range), had your snipe been $20.15, and nothing else changed, AS would have placed a $20.15 bid for you, and you would have won the auction at $12.50 ($12.00 2nd highest bid + $.50 increment).
