My latest disappointment: item # 2564779055

Full bidding history at the bottom of this post, for the morbidly interested. I never bid; my snipe was too low by the time this fiasco ended.

Notice how the winner kept nudging his bid up, eventually placing a manual snipe to win the item.

Notice also that 2-packs of these mikes are available NEW on eBay for a price per unit that's roughly the same as he paid for this USED one. (What, you don't need two of them? Just turn around and sell the second one on eBay.)

Yes, Gordo, I agree. I am currently watching the 'auction of my dreams' rapidly going down the drain as these two idiots are feverishly trying to outbid each other...and there's still almost a week left to go. :::sigh::: The winning bid should rival the national debt at this rate. Roll Eyes

The sad part is that if he had bid $115.01 he woulda won at that price and saved $2.49.

I guess if he read these boards he woulda known to not bid in even numbers. Always add a few cents.

And had he sniped it he woulda won for $107.50 and saved $10. Oh well, that's why you guys ar here and he isnt. That's just more winning, less hassle, and lower prices for you. Smile

Exactly, Sara. The way I see it, Auction Sniper prevents us from getting involved with that nonsense. The sniper decided his max in advance, saw that the bids were going to exceed that rationally set amount, and sat back and watched the idiots play. He knows there will be another soon.

That sounds like a winning combination to me. Cool

Thanks for the condolences everybody... yes, a good sniper knows when it's time to make a 'tactical retreat'... man, sometimes this militaristic imagery bothers me, but I gotta admit it's appropriate, since this is all about strategy.

To paraphrase Mao, or Lao-Tzu, or Mr. Miyagi or whoever: When all the others bid, don't bid. WHen they all bid on one item, bid on another. Go where the other bidders aren't...

AKG made (and are still making) many thousands of these mikes. They are great pieces of equipment but there's no shortage of them. I'll get mine later.

I've seen more than a few foolish bidders out there...one time a bidder kept putting bids in for something, one bid after another...I find such actions to be annoying, and it frustrates other people who wish to bid on the item. Bidding many times on one item will only start bid wars and things of that nature. In the end, it makes the end price outrageous, usually the high bidder needs to pay more than the item is even worth in such a case. Of course, the things I tend to bid on aren't mass-produced...they are all limited in number, and once out of production won't be made again. Such is the fate of my collecting hobby. Sometimes I simply have to get it when I see it, or risk not getting it at all or waiting an ungodly length of time to get it. So, I tend to put in a nice amount of money, but I don't bid over and over again. Usually, the most I ever bid on one item is twice. It makes no sense to keep putting in tiny amounts and increasing the price bit by bit.

I had a bid for world series tickets today. I was so excited when the auction was over, I was sure I won, as the last bid was $222, and my max snipe was 345. Lo and behold, the bid never went through!!! I found out I lost the ticket and it was a field box by first base.
All I got from AS was a screen that said "the bid was not processed for the above reason". The only thing it said was "ready" above that.
Later on, it said "bid not accepted". I emailed them about it and never received an answer. I now have an extremely disappointed 14 year old.
I'll never trust them again.

It would appear that AS tried to place your bid but eBay wouldn't accept it. Reasons could be:-

1. Wrong ID and password - have you set up AS with the same ID and password as on eBAy? If not, it won't work...
2. Server problem? Network problem? These arise from time to time and can cause bid failure.
3. Too short lead time? What did you set the lead time for? What was the item number and did it end on a Sunday evening in which time a greater lead time is required?!

I guess that posting this in "AuctionSniper is no help at all..." means that it was AS that you emailed - what address did you use? There is a proper support location at http://support.auctionsniper.com/ although it appeared broken when I just tried it! Red Face

I'm new to these forums. I used Auction Sniper for the first time yesterday and again today. I won both auctions - woo hoo! I've done my fair share of manual sniping and win 90% of the time. The other 10% were when the price went higher than I was willing to pay. The reason I won these two auctions were because I knew ahead of time what the items sell for. I did my research and knowing how much something cost brand new I was able to decide how much I was willing to pay. I also check to see if I can bid on another auction for the same item if I lose this one. Yesterday's item won for a price that is about half the cost of brand new (yay for me) and it's very gently used. Today's item was brand new, already assembled (as opposed to if I bought it elsewhere I'd have to assemble it myself) and I got it for $8 less than retail! I actually sat and watched the auction while AS did it's thing.

I'm a happy camper and will use it again. I won't use it all the time but when I'm bidding on a hard to find item I'll use AS to win. Big Grin
