Hello,

We are working on an auction website as an alternative to other auction websites out there right now. The website address is [url removed]

Could anyone give us their suggestions on features, improvements, marketing suggestions, etc. Any input would be appreciated.

We just launched the site 2 days ago, are providing free listings for 3 months, have created tools to prevent sniping.

Regards,
Dan

Auction Junkies hate the sniper. This intriuges me. People say they "won" or "lost" an auction, and this is furthered by the confirmation emails that you recieve after an auction ends. Its not a game. Is a transaction. If people used the proxy bid system like they should (bid the ammount that the item is worth to YOU) there would be no such thing as "sniping". I bought a computer with the last of my free snipes today. It was cheap. Mainly because the auction ended in the afternoon and people couldn't sit in front of their computers and out bid each other every minute. Ironically I had the highest bid with out even being anywhere near a computer because I used Auction Sniper.

Do people feel the need to work more? To add more stress to their lives? To find competition where there is none in the first place? Why are auctins "won" and "lost"? Sombody who has a little bigger budget, a little greater need, a whining kid that is a little louder, is the person who is going to obtain the auctioned item if you used the proxy bid that way it is supose to e used.

If you want to feel superior to somone else, think of the situation as you the bidder know better than to buy it for more that you decide that it is worth, and the fool that pays more than that is just that. A fool. What makes you think that just because you want a bargin, that someone else isn't willing to pay a fair price for the item.

If you bid what it is worth to you, and someone bids more, it is worth more to them, its that simple. You were underestimating the items value.

How are you going to stip sniping? Eliminate 3rd party biding? That just means that people are going to go back to their stop watches. If people don't bid what teh item is worth and expect to win it, they are going to be the same people complaining to you.

There is only one answer to someone wondering why they were sniped.

They should have bid more.

Click-Click-Bang.

Yes, it is a game, otherwise we would just buy many of the items from an online retailer or usenet classifieds rather than wait for 7 days for an auction to end. Some people enjoy the "auction fever" of bidding and outbidding opponents. One of the appeal of an auction is that you MIGHT be able to get something for a good deal. That IS winning. If nobody bid lower than what they are willing to pay, then I believe auctions would lose their appeal. There are some items that I might want, but not bad enough for me to pay close to what others would consider it worth. I agree with you that proxy bidding isn't being used by bidders as it should be, otherwise sniping wouldn't be so easy Smile
I am amazed at looking over the bids at the end of an auction and see a bidder bid 6 or 7 times in a row until it beat the highest proxy bid. If he was willing to pay that much in the first place, then he should have bid that high on his first bid. The truth is, many users on eBay just don't understand the proxy bid system. Just go to the help area on this site to see some of the questions. Are snipers taking advantage of that? Probably, but if they get sniped enough, maybe they will start bidding their high bid.
