Why when I have 6 seconds specified does AS snipe 30-40 seconds before the end of the auction. I've lost more than a couple of auctions by being "out sniped" simply becaus AS isn't sniping when it's supposed to.
Any ideas?

The "sniper in training" label applies to how many posts you have, not how many snipes you have.
I've been using AS for at least 3 years now & eBay for almost 10.

If you were that experienced with AS then you'd know that the FAQs include info. about AS adjusting the lead time at busy times which is a real (and helpful) answer to your question. Sadly the forums are hit on a regular basis by newbies who don't understand the basics of AS (not suprising as it isn't intuitive and they're spending no effort on imroving it) and blast the forums rather than reading the FAQs or the previous posts on the forums.
