I currently have 4 active snipes for items due in 7 or so hours. I just checked the status and saw that the Current Bid Price ("Currently:" on the My Snipes Page) is WAY, WAY off the current bid. In every case it is way too low. If I click-through on the item, it displays the eBay page and shows the correct bid. This is not good, because the prices are now close to my bid and I would like to adjust my bid, but if the Snipes page is not accurate, I will miss the bid.

Puppy Raiser,

Of course that is the right thing to do, but there are times when you might want to reevaluate your max. For instance, as is the case with these items, they are fairly rare collectables and I was not aware of the current street price. So when I saw the price getting near my max. I became concerned and did some research and discovered I was too low. So I revised my price. In any event, as a tool to help people maximize winning, I just needed to know how to best use Snipes.
I must admit, I've been known to change my mind as well, once or maybe twice... but I just couldn't resist making the suggestion.

That's the hard part about using AS... Determining your max. Try not to let other bidders decide what you're willing to pay. I understand that can be quite a challenge for those 'rare must have' items where the value is not known to you.

Luck to you with your snipes. Smile

That statement got me to thinking (always dangerous). Here’s a theory: Lots of, if not most, snipers want the ability to change their snipe amounts. Why does AS have the “Update Prices” button, if not to monitory the current price? And, why would someone monitor the price unless there was a chance they would want to change it. Why even list the price? If placing the maximum amount was the way snipers went, then what difference would it make what the price was? In fact, why even allow someone to change their snipe amount?

I think this all points to the fact that auctions are a subjective and competitive transaction, and the value of which may change constantly, even for snipers.

Let’s see if anyone disagrees.
