Wrong "bidd too low:" AS Confused by canadian currency?

Hello,

I recently requested a snipe for the following item:

The item was won by another with a bid of Canadian $81, or USD$52.32. My snipe of $56.54 was rejected as "Bid too low".

It seems, therefore, that the bid was not too late. Did AS place the bid in canadian dollars rather than US dollars? I'm glad this is an item that appears frequently.
