Well, firt of all, it depends on the item. I list everyday of the week and I don't see much difference. I do, however end my auction around 8 PM PST so that people across the country will be able to view it and hopefully bid after their dinner hour. I also don't list long. For my repeat items I list one day. For things like cars, etc., I go three. I find that people look and bid at the beginning of an auction and the end, not the middle. So, a long auction sits for too many days IMO. Sometimes people see something at the beginning and intend to bid later, but if the auction has too many days between, they often forget about it or loose interest.

It is also important to know what to start an item at. You can be too low or too high and scare people off.

I personally don't use reserves. I don't like the idea. I prefer to start the item at the least I will take(usually my cost) and let it go.
I took your advice......I'm selling a couple things in ebay auto parts, I listed them for 3 days yesterday at around 10:30 EST, or 7:30 PST...my starting bids are what I paid for the items. The other one has not gotten a bid yet, but I'll see what happens when the party's over. Cool

This will be my first sale, but I have purchased a few things already and my feedback is all positive so far. Thanks for the advice! Smile
If you buy low you may get away with using the start as your 'reserve' but I personally hate this tactic. I search daily on one 'area' of eBay and see high priced items not sell where those that start low (with or without reserve) often sell higher than those that don't sell - people get carried away or enjoy the chase!

So always start low, use a reserve to cover your costs if unsure of the market, and all should be fine.

I always go for 7 days as not everyone is online every day. Those that set up searches often use 2 day notifications so your item could be gone by the time they look.

Make your advert interesting (use an HTML editor if possible and paste in everything from <body> to </body> ) and always accept PayPal - I never bid on items that don't as no other method offers as much security to buyers and it's them you need to buy your items!

Listen to all the advice and choose the method that best suits what you are selling!

You can us MS Word but it's a bit messy (codewise - it'll look fine to us humans). Save as web page then edit the item using notepad and select everything between (and including) <body> (near the top) and </body> (near the bottom) and paste that into the big box on eBay. Personally I use Dreamweaver but that's a fairly expensive web designer's tool. Goto www.twocows.com and see if there is a free WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) web design tool available...

Hi folks,

Wow, someone brought up exactly the topic I was looking for.

I figure it's like this:

-Some people have LESS money than usual around the holidays (especially parents with several children)

-Some people have MORE money than usual (especially young people with generous parents or grandparents)

So it probably balances out somewhat, but it depends on what, and to whom, you're trying to sell.

I'm debating trying to sell one of my musical instruments, one I really enjoy but don't play regularly, and I'm wondering if now is a good time to do it.
