Won an auction manually after AS was outbid by proxy.....

I watched the auction count down & saw that my AS bid was defeated by proxy, I placed a manual bid as I had the window ready when I found that I couldn't modify the AS bid within 5 minutes of closing. Am I still required to pay AS? I am willing as the auction had no insurance option at checkout, & the AS fee + the AS Insurance fee is still lower than the USPS's fee for Insurance alone. It just seemed strange to me that I received an auction won notification from AS, when I won only through my efforts alone.....
